#NostrBookClub meeting!
π Week 1 π The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous
How did you guys like Chapter 1? It laid a really solid foundation for Money.
Here's this week's discussion question:
What did you learn about money that you didn't know before? Or, what ideas about money were explained differently than how you learned them?
Another chapter for next week with Chapter 2, Primitive Moneys. There will be new discussion questions posted next Wednesday, May 3rd π€
If you're coming across the book club for the first time, check out last week's discussion question:

you should pick your medium based on how easy it is for you to produce on a consistent basis. for some that's writing. for others, it's an audio recording. maybe video.
if your goal is to share your work on a regular basis, then it is less important what your audience wants/likes because if it is difficult for you to produce in that medium on a regular basis, then you won't be getting the work out.
plus there are a ton of tools to change one form into another. text to speech, speech to text.
looking forward to what you'll be doing!
Damus is iOS so that doesn't work for me.
Honkai Star Rail launches today. so hype! π
ooof yeah. just ditch heels altogether. you could probably find a nice pair of ballet flats or gladiator sandals to go with dressy outfits π₯°
As many of you know, I've been at Swan Bitcoin for the past 2.5 years.
As Head of R&D, my job has been to basically play with bitcoin stuff: Miniscript, BDK, making Coldcard do cool shit (like hook it up to a CLN and use it as a lightning signer), write Swan's LN backend, t-of-n ECDSA signing, and a bunch of other cool stuff.
If it hasn't been super obvious thus far, Nostr has absolutely captured my imagination and inspiration.
Now it's the time to take a step back, and transition to working on nostr full-time. What am I going to be doing? I'm not sure yet, I have an abundance of ideas that I will be/already am exploring, but now it's the time to double-down and seriously pursue things.
There's a WHOLE lot more to come.
I can't thank @Cory, nostr:npub1fqn4fgzkk8nm2x3wd600n935c9tc7xgg9jhk5dfa0kuvrgvsyv7sgu536l, and the whole Swan crew; it's been an absolute pleasure to work along people who share such a distinctively clear mission of doing what's best for bitcoin and bitcoiners.
LFG, team #bitcoin! π§‘

A good that is sound money doesn't need to be backed by anything. When something is backed by something, it means that some central authority has deemed it so.
When the dollar was backed by gold, that was because the government said it was. But the gold itself is not backed by anything. It has value because it represents an amount of work.
So yeah, Bitcoin isn't backed by anything because it doesn't need to be. The way that it is designed makes it a really good way to store and transact value.
The Bitcoin Standard is a good book for this topic. it's not short, nor a video though.
yes! outside time when traveling through a bunch of airports is much needed.
I'm living abroad temporarily so I'm very far away from my big floor loom and studio space where all my stuff is. I'll be back in a few months so that's when I can really kick it into gear.
I sell a little bit of my soul with every note I post. sometimes people zap me, sometimes not. π
real talk though, I'm a weaver and quilter so I want to sell those things for Bitcoin. Gotta get my ducks lined up before I can do that though.
I don't have skill in tech or programming either but I figured all those computer types will need users to use their apps so they can see if it works or not.
I feel like I do my part whenever I post π
yes. domesticated or wild, horses need herds. humans need community. that is how we thrive.
that's the long game for Nostr. all the tools and tech that is made is to help facilitate community building in a positive, organic way. There is no tech or engineering that can build the interpersonal trust that communities require like time does.

I won't talk on nostr community as a whole, whether it is in a lull or not. I just want to speak on my own experience as this has been on my mind lately.
Me personally when I started on nostr a few weeks ago, it was fresh and exciting. I felt like there was always something new and was able to be on here for hours at a time, posting my own original content or commenting on others.
Then it all started to feel a bit samey. It was the same people talking about the same-ish things. I felt like things were slowing down. I refreshed and refreshed but nothing new and exciting was coming up.
I realized that I had fallen into the social media dopamine trap. If Twitter is soda, then Nostr is juice. Juice is better for you, but you still shouldn't have a lot of it. It's still a ton of sugar. I drank way too much of it way too fast and I was crashing.
These days, I'm on nostr less. I curate my feeds and follows to see what I want. My goal is to spend more quality time here but less time overall. It has worked out much better and makes nostr feel fresh every time I use it.
I think the main solution is time. There will be one day where there will be many more horses and much greener fields. The barn will become more broken down and unwelcoming over time that being in the wild is worth the risk.
I mean, ostriches are the fastest land birds. just sayin'
