I can't speak for others but it is true for myself.
Higher fees will make me keep my BTC on custodial wallets rather than on chain.
I don't remember the specifics, so I might be wrong, but sats in a lightning wallet, like WoS, is still custodial even though they are Bitcoins. They are mine, but the node closing down or whatever may prevent me from being able to access those funds.
My practice is to move sats from lightning wallets to my own storage occasionally. Think of it like sats in a lightning wallet is like cash in your wallet that you carry around. you can pay out of it easily and put money in easily. on chain storage is like putting cash in a safe in your home. Not as easy to get money in and out.
So if fees are high, I might not move money as often. Fees will fluctuate and perhaps go up over time. That's natural and expected. I think it is important to understand why it is going up and whether or not those reasons are good for BTC in the long run.
People need to mind their own business on how people stack Bitcoins.
Gatekeepers can fuck right off.
Some people are okay with paying for a service where someone else is doing the heavy lifting.
Keep stacking sats. #bitcoin https://nostr.build/av/3ba54a62c9da8a1079c373d3647ddec0a166d78320f290c4c865d74bc9aa6402.mov

I think that's a good start too.
Recently I learned that people I report and block also become blocked for my followers as a way to control spam. I can understand the reasoning behind implementing it that way but I don't like how I have the ability to affect what others see, even if it is spam.
yes! I hadn't thought of it that way.
everyday the bills we use feel more and more like Monopoly money π
not just restaurant owners, but any business owners!
the future is bright π
If Bitcoin is the best money and Nostr is to be the best community, we have to think about what makes a community good.
Comparatively, it is easy to build the best money because there are characteristics define what good money is. Chapter 1 of the Bitcoin Standard covers this well.
But there's no definition for what makes a good community. It is much more subjective than defining what money is.
Decentralizing with the NOSTR protocol is a good start. It gives power back to the masses.
But now what? How do we build good communities? Thinking deeply on this can help build Nostr into what we dream it to be.

At TaiwanBitDevs meetup last night I met a restauranteur who pays his staff in Bitcoin (alongside fiat).
In the restaurant business, staffing is a huge problem. It's difficult to raise staff wages to match cost of living when inflation is affecting everything so staffing becomes a revolving door. As a business owner, he really dug down deep into the root cause of it all and like many of us, found that Bitcoin is the solution.
He believes that Bitcoin gives people hope that they'll be able to fulfill their dreams one day of raising families and owning homes.
When his staff receive Bitcoin and come to understand it's value, they defrost into their true selves. They come out of their beaten down selves from a previous life in fiat shackles. They are so much happier in their personal lives and in their work too, which is good for him as a business owner.
It was really cool to hear him talk about it. I hope this makes business owners consider paying their employees in Bitcoin. It starts with you guys.

PS. I'm definitely going to eat at his restaurant while I'm in town, so stay tuned for food pics π€€
yeah! it was a crazy time π
this note was sent during Taiwan BitDevs meeting tonight. We showed how easy it was to set up an account and connect a lightning wallet for zaps!
beers and meat to close out a great BitDevs Taiwan meet!

nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z Is it possible to allow for quick editing of notes by delaying amethyst sending the Event by 30 seconds?
This would allow the user to fix things like spelling mistakes up to 30 seconds after they clicked "post".
if you put this in, please make it an option to turn it off. this kind of friction would drive me up the wall.
I block. it's pretty fast with Amethyst. if the bot is particularly egregious, I report for spam.
I don't know how nostr and clients are going to deal with large amounts of low grade content without doing it programmatically, without algorithm. I think this is by far the biggest hurdle nostr faces in order to be able to go mainstream.

Here are notes of previous weeks:
Week 0
Week 1
For me, pogs were all the rage when I was a kid. It was a game played with circular disks made of thick cardstock (pogs) and metal disk (slammers)
The pogs had different designs. Some were cooler, more desirable. Most kids played the game for keeps but some kids traded them amongst each other. In a way, they were like money "I'll give you 10 pogs if you do my homework" or "I'll trade you 50 pogs for that slammer" and so on.
The fad was crazy but here's where it came apart for my friends and me. A family friend who ran a printing company was hired to print and cut pogs. We visited one day and he handed me a stack of overprints. Each page had about 40 pogs. I was a pog mogul overnight. He literally printed "money" and I had way too many for it to have value anymore.
I think kids naturally gravitate to creating money systems among themselves. They see the world transacting in dollars and instinctively know that money is a way to transfer value. But as a kid, you didn't really have access to "adult money" so you'd make up your own among your peers. I'm interested to see if there are other similar stories out there.

How did you guys like Chapter 2 on Primitive Money?
Here's this week's discussion question:
Did you and your childhood peers use any primitive monies? things like marbles, shiny rocks and so on. How did that money end up failing?
Next week will be Chapter 3, Monetary Metals. There will be new discussion questions posted next Wednesday, May 10th π€
