Different clients display the verification differently.
Try looking at the same person's profile on primal.net vs. snort.social vs. Damus on iOS vs. Iris.to vs. any other client.
I'm guessing you use Iris.to. When I use Iris I see a checkmark after people's name showing if I'm following them - blue check, or if I'm not, but some folks that I follow are following them - white check, and if a lot of folks I follow are following them there is a gold checkmark.
I don't know on Iris how to tell if someone is verified or not.

Me too. It's not that I can't do all the linux admin stuff to run my own server, I just don't want to spend that much time and effort. #start9 makes it so easy!!! I also think this is a great way to #grownostr - let folks run their own relay and even iris.to on their own server!!!
If you are looking into Umbrell it is worthwhile to look into Start9 as well. I'm a big fan of their products. They have a very easy interface, especially for beginners.
If you want the no-brainer plug it in and it works, you can buy the #start9 hardware with #startos preinstalled. They currently have a #serverone (starting $500 USD) which is Raspberry Pi based and a #serverpro (Starting $1,800 USD) which is Intel based.
If you want to run it on your own hardware you can. Just download the software (used to be called #embassyos ) from Start9 and follow their guides. It's a bit more work, but the instructions are clear and it doesn't take that long. The DIY model supports most raspberry pi and intel hardware though occasionally hardware driver specific issues cause problems.
You should think a bit about what you want to run on your server. if you do not have a stable internet connection, running a lightning node is impractical (and potentially dangerous - loss of funds if you are offline too long) and even a bitcoin node may be challenging. The initial download / sync of the full BTC blockchain took me a couple days on my server one and 14 hours (I think) on the server pro - but I have cable modem with total download test speeds of 750Mbps. Slower connectivity will take longer. You can consider a pruned node (less data to download and store). Figuring out what you want to run on your server before setting it up helps.

It seems their primary target market is video streamers and gamers, but I find it really helpful for my personal productivity. It gives me physical shortcut buttons that I use for everything from text replacement, timers, coding, clocks, web shortcuts, and yes - games too.
The best part is that they have support for community built plugins, so anyone can code custom buttons too. I'd love to hear if anyone else is using this, and what they use it for. I also have some thoughts for a custom plugin I'd love to have, so if you have coded for stream deck or are interested in learning DM me, perhaps we can collaborate.

Bitcoin fee estimation can be very tricky. Someone paid 34,146 sat/vB for a transaction - $1,222 ?!?!?

Why would anyone overpay by so much.
I took a deeper dive and discovered it was a CPFP transaction pulling a 2.8sat/vB transaction along. So effectively they paid 52.8 sat/vB, which is about right for the fee at the time.
What's CPFP? It's child pays for parent - a fee bumping technique that allows you to add extra sats to a fee for a transaction (child) that depends upon the original transaction (parent) and thereby get transactions in a block sooner.
Miners look for combinations of transactions where even if a given transaction has a low fee, by including it and higher fee transactions that depend on the 'parent' low fee transaction they can earn more total fees.
So much to learn about Bitcoin!!!

running ghost on a #start9 server is pretty cool - BUT since it only supports TOR for now, anyone accessing your website would need to use TOR.
#[3] is working on clearnet support - so you could use a regular domain name. It is a high priority, but they do not have an announced target availability, so for now it's TOR or TOR.
You can advertise the .onion address of your site, but that's it...

In addition to running my private #nostrrelay on my #start9 server, I'm now also running #iris.to there as well. Now I am self hosting the web site I use for my nostr client. Thanks to the #[0] team for making it so easy to do this.
This event is being sent to nostr relays from my selfhosted iris.
I think it's pretty cool, but I'm not sure how much benefit it really gets me in terms of privacy, self sovereignty, etc. Please chime in and tell me what you think!!

When you say a nostr node - do you mean a relay? There are two main approaches - do a paid relay where folks pay you for access (and you offer features like spam control, event retention, filtering, whatever you like) or offer a free relay and ask for donations.
