I was never a big poster on twitter, but used to spend a fair amount of time browsing. Now 90% of that time is here on nostr instead...

At some point all clients are going to need to deal with too much information per screen.

If you use an Nip-07 extension like Alby and you confirm each web page action individually you can easily see the number of transactions required to populate some of the DM screens. If I have DM'd with 50 people when I load my DM page how many transactions are required. If I display my DM with one particular person and we have 100s of messages it can be a lot of overhead.

Clients will need to provide pagination, filtering, searching to help users not get overwhelmed, find what they need and save some bandwidth.

Please don't take this as criticism of any clients - we are so early and they do so much already. Just an acknowledgement that we have a long way to go as we #grownostr

nostr does seem to have a too small range of topics. Searching on hashtags can help you find more diverse conversations.

While I do a lot of technical work and have much interest in #bitcoin there is much more that I'm interested in. I'm posting more on other topics and tagging them so we can expand the range of the conversation on nostr. #start9 servers, #beginnergardening, #houstontexans, #skiing and #freetrade are just some of the other areas where I'd love to see more nostr discussions.

I've accepted the challenge from #[4] for his #grownostr initiative. Check it out at: https://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/grow-nostr

You can connect to #nostr on private relays - there is no requirement to connect to a public relay.

BUT your connections, what events you see and who sees the events you post are limited by common relays.

Many people looking at nostr as a twitter replacement would say if you aren't on multiple public relays you aren't on nostr - since you can't communicate with a wide variety of people.

All you need is a key pair, a client and a relay and you can connect to nostr.

If I grant you access and share the private relay I run with you, and that's the only relay we used - it would be great for talking with each other, but impossible for others to follow our conversation and impossible for us to connect to the rest of the world. But we'd still be connected to nostr. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say we're connected via nostr.

This is actually an interesting use case I've been thinking about. Maybe there are some posts I want to share with my local community ONLY and not publish to wide general public relays, but only to a set of relays restricted to a limited purpose with a limited set of users.

Want to explore actually implementing community relays? Please DM me.

Lightning vs on chain is an interesting topic.

It’s not easy for most folks to self custody BTC on chain. With lightning it’s harder. So while lightning is great for fast transactions, I think we need to help people keep different buckets for different purposes.

Lightning on a third party custodial wallet is fine for zapping 21 Sats here and there. Even for larger transactions, but unless you are running a lightning node you should be sweeping any real accumulations of value onto an on chain wallet you control.

And even if you run a lightning node, you should be well aware of the risk you are running with your channels.

Lightning for zaps, on chain for hodling.

Educate the new folks to understand why it matters.

Nostr is an opportunity to onboard a bunch of new folks to self custody - their Identities (npubs) and be responsible for where they store their data (relays), as well as what interface(s) (clients) they choose to use.

Folks who do nostr and get this will have a much easier time understanding why Bitcoin matters.

I don’t think of myself as a survivor of flote. But maybe.

I was on board, excited, even bought an NFT. But it seems like that project faded out …. I had high hopes, but there were a lot of development challenges.

By contrast nostr is growing like crazy with all sorts of development / projects - many will fail, but the winners will keep nostr booming!!!

Thanks - lights started about one inch above and then I've been raising them as they get taller (don't want them bumping against the ceiling. Right now lights are about 1.5 inches over tallest seedlings. I'll pull those tomorrow morning and then lights will drop back down and be closer to shorter ones...

I look forward to seeing how many countries are represented when you complete your 100 invoice survey!

I may be a novice / minimally motivated gardener, but I’m still trying. Most of my first seedling batch died. Planted too early I think - We had a cold snap and seems like they didn’t make it. Next batch growing under the lights will be planted this weekend.

I’ve been very pleased with unchained. Been a customer for over 18 months now.

Their multi sig cold storage solution is well done. Their self custody IRA solution is great. And very importantly customer support is top notch.

I’m not associated with them other than happy customer, but if you have questions for me ask away.

I'm still using the fold card. It was a much better deal before. Their more recent changes reduced the payouts I am getting. I dropped spin+ for a while. Signed up for a month now - will be buying some gift cards which give a big bonus to spin+, but will probably drop it afterwards...

YMMV - it's worth looking into and seeing if it makes sense for you.

The way to increase your followers is to engage and contribute.

If you want to make a game of it, Jack Spirko proposed the #grownostr initiative with a 90 day plan. A bunch of us who listen to his podcast are doing just that. I'm on day 11 and already finding nostr so much more interesting than anywhere else.

#mempoolspace is not broken.

You saw a 57 minute gap. Proof of Work works that way. The average should be about 10 minutes / block, but mining is a game of guess the nonce, so sometimes it takes longer. Sometimes it takes less.

Here's a picture from just a couple blocks later where the gap was 6 minutes, 4 minutes, then 1 minute. it happens...

#[2] - don't let it go to your head!!!!

You are great, but we need you to deliver your improved networking as soon as you can.
