Just a humble user of #Bitcoin and #TheNostr, exploring and learning! #Austrich

Ideas

1) encrypted messages by post including encrypted ecash

2) encrypted offline document store including inheritance or bitcoin self custody things

3) encrypted offline password manager

4) ... What else?

A way to share encrypted notes offline.

Output encrypted Nostr DM as QR code. Send to intended recipient. Recipient scans and decodes with nsec.

Or use as an encrypted offline backup of your own notes.

(Idea borrowed from reticulum but I like it very much).

Really cool. It seems like we could even run a full nostr client over reticulum (for users and DMs at least, maybe needing to be mindful of bandwidth for other uses). Now I wonder about building apps on reticulum, which on daily use work in an internet connected way, but in Internet-down scenarios, can use this other networking stack to failback; for example to a local mesh...

Which relay software did you use for this? I set up a personal node without auth, many others started using it unprompted and I blew through my bandwidth quota! Had to turn it off.

Yes, ecash over Lora would be useful when the grid goes down. And, for bonus points defeat the "what happens when they turn off the Internet" boomer fud.

How do you find it works in the city? Do nodes get reception at street level? Do you need repeaters on building tops? What's the ideal setup?

This is really cool. I'm inspired note1p6gnzxkm0n9dh2c6clplnswzc9gy4krqrlpkw5j9ud5q3j559xrs9rcuek

Have not used it yet. nostr:npub1m2mvvpjugwdehtaskrcl7ksvdqnnhnjur9v6g9v266nss504q7mqvlr8p9 also posted a comparison between reticulum and meshtastic a while ago. He's the expert 🤠🤙

Thanks. Found it here. Interesting choice to make. I would need offline mesh as a transit layer, so either will do. It's closer to the vision of reticulum. But the fastest path would be to bootstrap off existing mesh. I will look at how widespread is reticulum. Meshtastic seems to be firing right now. https://blog.erethon.com/blog/2024/01/31/comparing-reticulum-and-meshtastic/

Thanks for the reply! I am still trying to learn about ecash. Have I understood correctly that the tokens can be passed peer to peer entirely without querying any central service?

A concept for an entirely offline communications *and payment* network.

Meshtastic peer to peer mesh networking using lora radio devices

A cashu mint which allows for ecash to be sent peer to peer over the mesh

A client application in the style of Primal, but for Meshtastic nodes and ecash tokens

Internet and power go down and the mesh network still works, and the ecash can still be sent via the mesh.

Would this work? nostr:npub142t785ujh97zzvnss8xm8jm8fhage8rxxjfaksmenfq8j4266xcs7ds6ue nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg nostr:npub1dqepr0g4t3ahvnjtnxazvws4rkqjpxl854n29wcew8wph0fmw90qlsmmgt

Nostr looks like the fastest horse. Launch any business, no need to build any website, member systems, payment rails, social features ... It's all built in. To build a business just focus on your business.
