I don't think human beings can be reduced to percentages. I also don't think privacy means not being social.

I protect all facets of my privacy and at the same time I am totally social.

Using a VPN, encrypted services (email, text), and staying away from apps that are built to scrape and sell data rather than their apparent use (TEMU is a good example of this. It has been estimated that they lose 30 percent off each sale but they make bank on scraping phones for data and selling it) in no way inhibits my social life.

PS Internet "social" isn't real. Social human interactions are in person. Anything else is less real. A phone call lacks facial expressions, a video call misses the mark because there's no real human face to face presence, a text message is way too open to speculation and misunderstanding.

I'm out in the world talking to people: at the store, in a café, at a museum, at a market, at the gym, on a hike, in an art class.

A "life" online is an illusion.

I am not sure saying with "all due respect" will make your comment like that. But at the end, I didn't see anything rude in it, so I think you can leave that out.

I don't think social interactions have limits. Also I don't think online social interactions are better then real life interactions, nor would it replace them.

I think both has its place.

Having a friend on the otherside of the world could be problematic meeting frequently enough, therefore it might make sense keeping in touch with online.

But online things hide some problems in itself, and I wanted to explore here how to be social online still keeping one's privacy.

Yep, our push server knows which keys are in which device ids if you activated Push Notifications. But that into is not public, only the push server sees it. Device IDs are random numbers, so they don't expose any other info about you.

But if you are concerned about that, you should know that if you use multiple keys in the same device, relays and image servers, including proxies, can also see which keys are together by just logging where requests are coming from. They can do that roughly well even through Tor.

VPNs can muddle this info, but the VPN server itself will also know that info (and much more).

Happy to code schemes that obfuscate that info, but to the best of my knowledge, Signal, SimpleX servers also know the same info based on Device IDs/IP info.

I guess if it is collected, it could be disclosed. As with many other services of course.

I assumed the same with relays, and hosting servers as well. Almost the whole internet can collect data about you.

Are VPNs are better over Tor, because more people use the same VPN server/IP therefore who connects IP with user data have too many options to connect? But ad you said, VPN providers can remove that ambiguity definitely.

I guess VPN over Tor could give us the benefit of VPN and benefit of VPN provider knows less. What do you think? Of course the more indirection you have, the slower it will be. Alternative cost.

Is the data still sent to firebase if the user turns of notifications?

I only see so far, that it can be only solved by per note ecash payments.

This way, you don't need subscriptions, you don't need an account, you just pay as you use. Then it also worth for the relays, but they don't need account managment, subscription management to maintain their service.

Similar to what nostr:npub1h0uj825jgcr9lzxyp37ehasuenq070707pj63je07n8mkcsg3u0qnsrwx8 is proposing.

I guess if this is a stable id.

It can be used several ways.

If you created multiple accounts on amethyst, then those accounts could be connected to 1 user, so all different npub info decreases your anonymity set.

Also the connections of all accounts (social network) could be merged for those accounts, for all amethyst user's, then voilá a nice social graph.

I mean they only need the device id - npub, the rest is public information.

Isn't #Amethyst collecting per-device ids with pubkeys allow amethyst to create connections between npubs so decreasing privacy?

Sounds so easy to do something small to break your #privacy and you only need to do that once.
