I created a GitLab account because I want to contribute to an open source project hosted there.

But despite already verifying my email, I still cannot login, because then GitLab also wants me to verify a phone number, AND give them a credit card number.

What the fuck?

Horrible user expertience and I feel so turned off.

Why is there so much friction to do something so fucking simple?

Extremely frustrating.

I find it funny that many people here claim to be all about:

“the revolution!!”

“legacy tech will die”

“We are the future!!”

“Screw legacy tech and all things legacy for that matter!!”

And then I see them crying about stuff like:

“I want apple to give me this for free!!”

“Why can’t Apple let me do this like this!!!”

“Why does Apple have to take a cut!!!”

It’s so interesting to read. Like, make up your mind!

You hate legacy tech but you can’t live without Apple.

You say they suck and they’re obsolete but then you cry because you want your apps on the appstore for free.

Of course not EVERYBODY is like that, but lately these profiles and replies are coming up a lot on my account.

I’m all for the revolution!! I love nostr so far. Don’t get me wrong.

But I don’t think Apple and other “legacy” companies are obsolete. If you believe that, cool. But you can’t have it both ways.

I think you can pay with Bitcoin on-chain, but not lightning. Mullvad takes Monero I believe, and you don't need to provide any information to make an account. They just give you a random account number that's not tied to any personal information.

No reputable provider has been caught doing that. It's all these random shit VPNs that you've never heard of.

I use both, but I'd probably recommend Mullvad over Proton to most users. Their service a little better, there's some proxying features they offer that Proton does not, and you can sign up and pay anonymously. Proton is a good choice if you're already a Proton customer and have access to the VPN inciuded in your subscription.

KYC free accounts and payments. 3rd party auditing.

A VPN provider can harvest a lot of data from you. You have to trust your VPN provider. There are VPN providers that have been caught logging users data even though they promised that they weren't.

TOR is way more private than a VPN.

TOR sometimes sucks to use.
