Just the one, kind of a frienemy who is as old as him. They have strict rules of engagement and compete over silly town-planning things so they don’t go to actual war with each other like in the olden days. Originally the story was going to be about them, but the romance seemed more intriguing

A two-thousand year old town planner moves to Brisbane for a new job and makes friends professional dog walker when he gets stuck with the mayor’s dog. They’ve all got memory problems, because 2000 years old, acquired brain injury, and the pup just ain’t very smart. (I’ll nail the longline next draft :D) Originally outlined as a romance, but I don’t know what I’ve got at the moment. No one is kissing!

Now I want it to be morning so I can eat something like this. Or breakfast can just be a state of mind and I find someone to make if for me right now at 9.39pm

Mulled wine at critique group and the rest of the group is really blowing me a way with quality of their submissions at the moment.

Detective writing seminar was very helpful, worth driving to Caboolture but possibly not breaking my healthy eating streak to eat a donut. I now feel more adventurous about attempting a contemporary crime book next (with speculative or horror elements, don’t worry)

You say that and I imagine a Ottessa Moshfegh sort of vibe? Good luck with the editing! Let us know if you come across any good revision techniques or tips

And I realise I have a typo: *drive up the coAst - it was all free at the local library up that way. I love libraries

It was really good! The retired detective was very generous sharing insights into the service. He does a podcast with a (I think) an ex-paramedic and someone who works for one of the other departments that I’ll have to download and have a listen to https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/genre-fiction-podcast/id1680302858

Tomorrow I’m driving up the cost for a writing seminar by a former police detective! Hopeful it will help me outline the next project and provide insights

wisdom from John McPhee from the essay Draft No. 4 which I hope made it into the book of the same name.

Cold enough for Fabio to need clothes

Oh, on housing IMF has Spain with a worse income to house ratio and Italy as better, almost equal to Singapore (which is warm and has jobs but not exactly a democracy). Guess we’re learning Italian then!

Australia’s housing problems feel so across the board ridiculous at the moment, Italy and Spain might be better options!
