Well, I don't live in a free country. My country is ruled by oppressive leaders.

6 months ago, on my birthday, we got the news that my wife had cancer.

I made a choice then, to believe that in spite of how things appeared, that there were deep and valuable gifts to be found in what we would walk through next.

What happened over the next 6 months was a deepening of our marriage and love for each other that is hard to express. We also experienced the tangible presence of God showing up at every significant medical event, and miraculous provision to pay for them.

My wife also had some deep realizations about how she wanted to live differently.

Both of us did.

My wife returned to work today, cancer free. Tomorrow is her birthday.

In my country, there is no freedom. We lack freedom in choosing what to wear, expressing ourselves freely, criticizing the government's actions, and many other aspects of life. Even if you live in a supposedly free country, government control can still dominate your life and affect everything about you.

In my opinion, humans won't truly tasted real freedom. Freedom belongs to all people, not just what governments bestow upon us. Real freedom is like a bird that allows your soul to soar.
