I don't see it that way. It only has to be workable to use Nostr technology for the Fishburners community. The benefits are in the blurring of public and private lines which allows the community to benefit and leverage access and input from outsiders.
Of course I may be wrong, but that is what a POC is for.

Said online community is currently in Slack, for which the UI sucks and the walled nature of it holds the org back, IMO.

Who is going to make neat Nostr NFC tags?
During Bitcoin Amsterdam at the Nostr booth and nostr:npub1h5ewqujs336m0kdez46l03jttnaqp3yrvf7evertw0ec52q3qulq4kcdg7 we used NFC cards to find and follow npubs. So I just let someone else scan my NFC card and my profile was there instant. It’s the best way to share your profile in meatspace. So instead of having a simple NFC card I see a great market oppertunity to deliver Nostr branded NFC tags. Who can build that? #growNostr

How much would I pay for some Nostr branded NFC cards, purple with ostrich (on a Nostr branded lanyard)? Let's say $20. How much to have that printed and drop shipped from China? Let's say $2.

I don't know Squarespace. But I assume you have a domain name registered with a registrar somewhere, and that in that domain's DNS records you have an A record that points your http://www. subdomain to your Squarespace IP address.
What I wonder would work is if you had a second A record which points your http:// root domain to some other host which hosts your Nostr records.
I don't know that this is possible or that this is what your setup is, but it could work.
As for setting up your Nostr records on a separate host, I have a blog about how to do that with Sveltekit and Vercel, NVK has another on how to do it with GitHub pages.
In summary if Squarespace doesn't support it, you may be able to work around it using your domain name DNS configuration.
