Thanks for being a great reader ❤️

Hey Folks, I’m going to pause contributing to the Nostr Tech Weekly.

I have too many commitments at this point to give it the time it deserves. I still fully believe in Nostr and the community and the wonderful devs 💪.

I’ve had a lot of fun working with nostr:npub19mduaf5569jx9xz555jcx3v06mvktvtpu0zgk47n4lcpjsz43zzqhj6vzk and look forward to seeing how to support the community going forward.

Love yall ❤️

nostr:npub1r3fwhjpx2njy87f9qxmapjn9neutwh7aeww95e03drkfg45cey4qgl7ex2 For it to work well as an API, it can’t be presigned, but using nsec bunker you could delegate the note signatures to a service.

I haven’t seen that yet but I’m totally with you. Almost requires nsecbunker to work though 🤔

Logos for decentralized tech seem to be emergent phenomena from memes more than direct effort by a small group.

Each of your mentioned examples have small organizations who are responsible for development so it’s natural for them to form a logo.

I’d argue the ostrich is the meme that underpins any logo. We just haven’t found the style and form factor of the ostrich that is iconic enough to have everyone converge on one logo.

🤔 what I do is use a custom GPT that I just add the link to the NIPs GitHub repo as part of the system prompt. Works well for me. Just gotta say “please search the Nostr NIPs repo before answering”

Downloading and fine tuning may be overkill

I went with Strike for now. Until I learn enough to do self custody, that is

Sounds like nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 but with a relationship with one Swiss bank instead of banks all over the world.

That said, Strike’s API is young and this could encourage more B2B payment rails that cross the Bitcoin / fiat divide.

Nsecbunker is highly featured this week 😊 nostr:note1rcjafj4tvlgafhejxw4djhea4ukhn0epnemt9x8n2qag4dqk7lusdu33e9

How can we get more long form content on to Nostr? This seems like a great place for blog posts, substack style newsletters, medium like posts, etc… But it’s not so easy. The wordpress plugins for nostr do unformatted short posts with links.

We added long form markdown support to rsslay, https://github.com/planetary-social/rsslay , but rsslay has some pretty big design flaws which can’t be fixed. It doesn’t act like a normal relay, it doesn’t store anything, instead each time you request an npub it goes and redownloads the rss feed associated, creates NEW events, and provides them once to that client that requested them, and then deletes the events from memory. So if multiple people follow a feed, they’re all slowly getting different versions of the event.

I want it to be easy, nicely formatted markdown, ideally with support for the paid subscription content stuff nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft is working on.

Thoughts? Has somebody built something? RSS is probably the easiest way although lots of formatted content in rss is a mess. It needs to be something that can push to multiple relays the way mostr does. It needs to import once, and then scale with the nostr network. Users who comment on the post need to be commenting on the SAME event, not multiple versions of the event.

We’re SO SO SO close to this working, yet somehow it doesn’t.

Habla.news is where nostr:npub19mduaf5569jx9xz555jcx3v06mvktvtpu0zgk47n4lcpjsz43zzqhj6vzk does long form content. It works well! And some clients are able to sense the markdown format and display it well.

But monetization isn’t something I’ve seen much yet in this context (just zaps I think)

Nice yeah I wanted to get a sense of how scalable it could be (not that there’s a ton of demand at this moment)

I can imagine an ecosystem of providers that all use different Lightning providers but provide the service to bootstrap a nostr account (keys, profile, address, wallet). I’m stoked to play with it

Oh damn didn’t know it was already that robust. Wow

Where can I read up on the LN wallet stuff? Is it something where the bunker is the node and comes with all the attendant maintenance? Or is it offloaded to some other trusted provider?

Can’t wait 💪

This definitely pairs well with being an “address provider” (NIP 05) too. It’s a natural bundle for those that want an easy button for Nostr login / ID management.

Exciting stuff!

📢 nsecBunker 0.10.0 is out!

Codename: nostr, an oauth-like protocol

This is a significant release that provides the ability to run OAuth-like bunkers which will allow registration in your bunker to new accounts.

It also integrates with LNBits + Nostrdress to provide the ability for new nostr users to be able to immediately receive zaps 🤯

✅ LNBits

✅ Nostdress for zap receives 👀 (thanks nostr:npub1nxa4tywfz9nqp7z9zp7nr7d4nchhclsf58lcqt5y782rmf2hefjquaa6q8)

✅ NIP-89 announcement on each nsecbunker boot

* Tons of bugfixes

Next up will be connecting the new user's wallet to automatically negotiate Nostr Wallet Connect; clients will be immediately able to *send* zaps. No fidgeting with copying around connection strings or scanning QR codes, client and nsecbunker negotiate in the background.

Under the hood, this is using the flow described here https://github.com/kind-0/nsecbunkerd/blob/master/OAUTH-LIKE-FLOW.md

Sweet! In this regime could there be nsecbunker providers that provide this as a service?

That’s a great idea. Are there any ideas what they need that isn’t well met? Maybe Nostr already solves that for them?

I think activists, whistleblowers or journalists will need truly private and secure comms (their adversaries are governments). Maybe a wikileaks type website as well for stuff to be published on.

For computer nerds I wonder if it’s just a Reddit clone that’s got enough people on it to have interesting conversations?

Let’s discuss how to sustainably fund Nostr development 💪 nostr:note1tqjff4sqq8n947m7a6ny6j4ae3rz0knggk9na9nnu93mweylv8wqjw7dx8

If you mean: store files on relays, there’s been interest but not any great solutions yet that’s I’ve seen

If you mean something like Nostr.build where it is compatible with Nostr but not stored on relays, then yes.

Trouble with storing on relays is they’ll get bloated and expensive to operate and possibly make Nostr more centralized (harder for people to run small relays at home)
