how many man-hours of intellect have been wasted on stupid stuff like flat-earthers? imagine if all those hours had been put to use on bitcoin education & development.

Hey nostr:npub1s5yq6wadwrxde4lhfs56gn64hwzuhnfa6r9mj476r5s4hkunzgzqrs6q7z and nostr:npub16c0nh3dnadzqpm76uctf5hqhe2lny344zsmpm6feee9p5rdxaa9q586nvr, just listened to your podcast conversation from Dec 23, 2023 The Free Speech Solution. Thought everything you were talking about was really cool.
I created my nostr keys just a month ago. I am a bitcoiner and an aspiring rust/bitcoin dev. One of the aspects of bitcoin I really love is the hope for the future it gives me and the motivation to gtd. It inspires me to be a better person. e.g., focusing on Quality (as described by Robert Pirsig).
I'm seeing parallels with nostr. The more I learn about it the more convinced I become of its importance to circumvent a dystopia. I never really cared that much about social media –I never created a twitter account. Thought it was mostly a waste of time. But I feel differently about nostr. I feel like I'm participating in something that is actually going to benefit humanity.
There is a line from A Cypherpunk's Manifesto which to me has never rang more clearly:
"We must defend our own privacy if we expect to have any. We must come together and create systems which allow anonymous transactions to take place." Bitcoin and nostr are the protocols/systems that will take us to the promised land. But we need to be preparing, always preparing and building and educating ourselves. It's not going to be easy, but who the hell wants easy?
These are exciting times and I know the cypherpunks will prevail. Anyways, just wanted to give a shoutout because you guys suggested to in your podcast convo. ₿₿₿

this episode was badass. bitcoin mechanic so eloquently and convincingly described the current mining issues and Ocean's stance on them. very mature arguments layed out.

Here is what chatBTC has to say about the Unix time stamp.
Holocat:
Bitcoin needs to change the Unix time to address potential issues that may arise as the current timestamp system approaches its limits. Specifically, from the content provided in link [4], we understand that Bitcoin uses an unsigned 32-bit number for its Unix timestamp, which allows it to represent dates up until the year 2106. However, once this limit is reached, known as the Y2.038 problem for signed integers, there will be a need for a hard fork to extend the timestamp's capacity.
Furthermore, in link [3], there is a discussion about post-soft fork nodes incrementing the timestamp by one with each new block starting at Unix Epoch 0x80000000. This approach temporarily extends the timeframe before a hardfork is necessary, as it changes the unit of time increment from one second to ten minutes, significantly delaying the point at which the Unix time limit will be encountered.
Therefore, the reason Bitcoin needs to consider changing the Unix time is to ensure the continuity and stability of the system beyond these temporal limitations imposed by the current 32-bit unsigned timestamp implementation. It is essential to anticipate and plan for this far in advance to avoid any disruptions in the network when the current timestamp reaches its maximum value.

Bitcoin will have to hard fork one day. I wonder what all will be in the hard fork. For sure the Unix time stamp.
