Realize that those in power will do pretty much anything they think will work to stay in power. The only thing stopping them is the probability of success. And if they've duped a significant percentage of the population, their probability goes up and their tactics become proportionately immoral.

Having a plan can indeed be beneficial in many aspects of life, but when it comes to economic systems, the perspective differs. Central planning is hubristic - no group can possess enough knowledge to efficiently allocate resources across an economy. The free market's price system provides a decentralized mechanism for gathering and transmitting necessary knowledge. Competition and free exchange incentivize local knowledge and adaptation. Economic planning disrupts this emergent order by overriding market signals with coercive state power. The conceit that central decision-making is superior reflects a faith in coercion and disdain for individuals' dignity to choose. Spontaneous order harnesses more knowledge than any top-down scheme. It's not a matter of "no plan" but rather decentralized planning by countless actors, which can often lead to more efficient resource allocation and innovation compared to centralized planning in socialism.

Seems like we are getting closer to things breaking in the market or at least having a big retracement. We shall see but Jeff Snider always mentions September and March as the months with very low liquidity due to global bottlenecks. With the ten year rising to 4.3% I think risk assets start heading back down. Bear market bull trap over? How long before the fed blinks? Interest payments on the debt going parabolic. Seems unsustainable. Move the inflation target to 3% claim victory then move rates back to 2% or lower is probably the next play by the fed in the next 6-12 months. Maybe faster if something breaks.

Nihilism vs. Reality

The crux of today's political divide isn't necessarily policy; it's fundamentally about how we perceive reality. On one side, we have a post-modern outlook that argues everything is relative, and absolute truth doesn't exist. On the other side, there's a belief in an objective reality governed by fixed truths and constraints. This division is metaphysical in nature, and it's not something easily bridged or reconciled.

This divide manifests significantly in how each viewpoint interprets narrative, history, and events. In a post-modern framework, power dictates reality; winners set the rules. Reality, in this context, is a creation of those who hold power. Contrastingly, a reality-based perspective recognizes natural laws and constraints that guide outcomes. While these outcomes aren't inevitable, they operate within a set framework that has its own rules and limitations.

One striking difference between these perspectives is the role of morality. The post-modern view lacks a moral dimension, suggesting that any group could dominate if they had sufficient power, thereby creating a different set of rules. The reality-based viewpoint, however, introduces a moral dimension. It proposes that those who align better with natural laws are more likely to succeed.

The post-modern approach is unsettling because it negates the concept of progress. In a world where no objective standards exist, every outcome is morally equivalent to any other. This outlook renders terms like 'better' or 'worse' meaningless since there's no objective measure for comparison.

Much of today's event analysis operates under this nihilistic framework. The underlying assumption is that current reality is arbitrary, a result of a series of coincidences favoring the existing power structures. While this viewpoint may seem politically correct, it is inherently flawed. Objective realities do exist, as do limits on what those realities could be. Just because we can imagine flying pigs doesn't make that a feasible reality.

Effective analysis must start with established truths or first principles. Without them, we descend into a realm of meaningless power struggles and propaganda, devoid of useful understanding. In summary, our approach to understanding the world around us should be grounded in an acknowledgment of certain non-negotiable truths and moral standards.

Socialism sounds good because it is posited as a system where people share more.

But what socialism actually is, is Peter forcing Paul at the barrel of a gun to share according to how Peter thinks he should.

You cannot have “forced sharing,” it’s a direct contradiction. The only reason sharing is good is because it’s a choice.

you can also connect your lightning wallet to nostr and send so called zaps, where you send real sats (smallest unit of Bitcoin) to people you like.

People who respond with “make a PWA instead”, you are missing the point.

The point is not that we can’t circumvent this. We can stop doing things on iOS or simply not have zaps on posts.

The point is that every single app can no longer add zaps to posts. This is a big blow for the zap economy model. It means no other apps can explore what it would mean to support work with instant p2p payments. This is a blow to the future of lightning payments, marketplaces, creator economy.

There are 1.5 BILLION active iPhone users. To say, fuck Apple, let’s just do X instead is to say who cares about 19% of the world’s population.. we don’t need them in the bitcoin micropayments economy.

This demands a big response. I am not sure we are making it a big enough deal. There must be A LOT more noise happening right now.

I'm a fan of Elon Musk inasmuch the inevitable outcome of his "success" is the death of nihilism.

His entire worldview is based on the belief that humans are merely clumps of wet chemicals with no free will.

His success will accelerate the destruction of civilisation and the nihilistic culture currently at the helm.

Bitcoin can't save a civilisation on such a downturn, but the visionaries, the builders, the immovable movers will be there, ready to rise like the phoenix.

This entire game is about energy preservation & appreciation of your purchasing power, over medium/long periods of time. Strip all of the economic & financial dogma away, and keep it simple:

Technology is more advanced than ever, yet prices keep going up, as more units of currency perpetuate the system; it never ends.

The idea of an absolutely scarce monetary asset with supply inelasticity relative to demand, tied directly to energy markets with an ever increasing marginal production cost, is so profound, that most dismiss it outright; are repulsed by it even. It breaks worldviews.

A majority of people are so comfortably dependent on the incumbent system, that they will decide defend a ticking time bomb.

A small minority understand the system as it exists from within, yet defend it for reasons of self interest and greed; dishonorable but understandable given the incentives.

The rest are useful idiots, defending the system while being exploited by its very existence. This cohort is definitively in the blast radius, due to their own sheer ignorance and/or incompetence.

On the other side, there exists an intransigent and uncompromising minority of people who have come to understand the ultimate reality of both systems. Economic game theory and a desire for a different rules based order leads them to simply just leave to start playing a different game entirely.
