To users? I feel like that would cause a lot of people to shitpost constantly.
So it looks like everything printed from 2017 to 2020 is going to have a 2017 on it. That means we've only had 2.5 years where new money has a date later than 2017. It's not as crazy if you know that, but I still wouldn't expect the new bills to be so hard to find as this experiment found.
I don't like to torrent. Too big of a security and privacy risk.
I feel like this is either completely insignificant or the result of the wildest possible conspiracy theory you can think of. There is no in between.
Should have bought some 2009 Bitcoin with it!
Yeah, it is a bit curious that there isn't more. I get a steady supply of cash from my job in tips, and my clientele is anywhere from upper middle class to stupidly rich. These are people that are constantly churning through cash, so I would have thought they would be getting the freshest cash.
However I do live on the west coast, and I would bet product to Washington DC is a factor. Do you happen to live relatively close to DC?
Good point. That explains why I only see the years 2013 and 2017 mostly. Anyway I posted my findings.
Today I conducted an experiment where I asked people to check their USD physical cash to see if we could find a paper bill that had been printed in 2018 or later. I had been checking my cash for a month and had yet to find one, I was starting to wonder if they had stopped making new bills!
I offered an increasing amount of sats to incentivize people to check their wallets until I maxed out at 50k. Nothing drums up interest like offering cold hard sats.
I was flooded with tens of responses saying they checked and couldn't find anything printed after 2017 until finally nostr:npub1wl89d7yazg500lehg08p45dj2jzhhyqg2erj067458e3wd30djns4zn8lu found a 2021 $1 bill.
Followed very shortly by nostr:npub13ldzrxwy8x066ll5zf45qtcltms40ld7fsy4rejdlcc64my80lcslchmy5 with a '21 $5.
The time has come for me to reveal why I just spent thousands of sats on this grand experiment...
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I don't fucking know! This was way too unscientific and anecdotal to draw any conclusions from.
Could they be trying to cut down on circulating bills to prepare to issue a CBDC? According to the BEP they are printing just as much as they always have:

Where is all this freshly printed cash then?
Maybe the Cantillon Effect should be taken very literally and all the newly printed bills get distributed to billionaires and politicians first. Is all the freshest cash in Washington DC and just hasn't tricked down to us plebs yet? Who knows!
I thought this experiment might give me some brilliant insight, but it turns out it was just for fun. Best 50k sats I've spent.

Okay, the U.S. Bereau of Engraving and Printing says that although printing is down the past few years, it actually rose for most denominations from 2017 to 2019. This is definately strange. We should be seeing a more even distribution of dates. Can't wait to hear the theory.

Nice. I was wondering where to find that info. My Google skills suck. It looks like they print a lot of cash every year, but I feel like I'd see more variety in the printed date if that were the case.
You have no lightning address to zap.
Oh man, I'm sorry you were just barely beat by nostr:npub1wl89d7yazg500lehg08p45dj2jzhhyqg2erj067458e3wd30djns4zn8lu . You still get a consolation prize though, thanks for playing!
We have a winner, but if you do find one I'll give you a consolation prize. Bonus if it's greater than $1.
Last call!
I offered 1,000 sats.
I offered 10,000 sats.
I offered 20,000 sats! No one has been able to fulfill my request!
I am now offering 50,000 sats to the first person that can show me a picture of a USD physical cash bill of any denomination printed in 2018 or later. I want to see some Yellen Bucks!
It must be a picture you took, not one found on the internet somewhere. I want to see that it is actually in circulation!
Please boost this note if you find this experiment interesting. I will explain why I think this is significant on a bit (though I bet a lot of you already have an idea why).
