Stacking sats is a metaphor, not a misnomer.

Thankful for metaphors.😎

Next variant: I have no idea if I got any badges and it's perfectly fine.🙂

🙏 I agree, Polish people are great. I'm just an immigrant here though, but my wife is Polish. Have a beautiful Sunday. ☀️

I’ve been leaving a bunch of comments about badges, and wanted to tie it all together in one note for anyone who cares. Here are my evolving thoughts:

Obviously there’s been a bunch of hype, and that’s cool, but a bunch of people are still confused and some are even upset. Worry not, badges are harmless and much of the hype is likely to die down fast anyway.

First of all, I’m not a game designer, but I’ve played enough games to know that badges are mostly useless. For a badge to feel special it typically needs to:

1. Be difficult to achieve

2. Be available for anyone to try to achieve it

3. Come from some important central entity

It’s not to say that friend to friend badges are useless or won’t last, but I’d wager the hype on those will be the first to die, and fast.

I think the best use of badges is if it comes from important community entities or people who are central to Nostr’s ability to keep going. For the most part this means clients, and perhaps the founder of the protocol. Some developers can also command that kind of influence. One off events might also be good candidates for badges.

The main issue with nostr badges is that they can be created by anyone - and that makes them less special. Also, the fact that the playing field is not even (anyone can create a badge only for a specific subset of people and not everyone), makes them double ineffective. A sense of mission, struggle and achievement is required for badges to feel special. Again, this is where I think clients will be good candidates to issue them.

All that being said it’s still good fun, though I don’t expect it to last long.

Good considerations.

We test, experiment and learn the best practices over time.

And the bot percentage of the blue bird is high. Lots of Asian women with the same profile image. Purely random..

Agreed, but only if that account recovery mechanism absolutely can't be used to steal people's identity. It has to be thoroughly investigated for all sorts of scenarios.

Depends on people's age also. If they had a tattoo 10, 20, 30 years ago or longer, then it might not indicate much in itself. If there are other red flags, then a ton of tattoos doesn't improve the impression.

It makes sense to work out secure implementations. However, there's nothing wrong with people exploring a range of possibilities. Both can be true at once.

This is why it's good to have multiple social media: if a nostr nsec is compromised, it is easy to verify the new nsec on other social media.

💯 Badges were inevitable. But how badges are integrated into Nostr needs to be considered from a responsible security perspective.

Me, trying to gracefully transition from “the bad place” to #Nostr:

Bullies and trolls exist. Maybe it’s a compliment that they choose to come here; who knows.

But it is SO peak Twitter to start a problem just you can retell your version from a martyred perspective. More so when you insult people who dare to comment.

Hurt people hurt people. Basic people hurt people. But most of us didn’t sign up to be part of their bullshit. Block and let it go. ✊🏼

Yup. There will always be people trolling a successful free speech arena. Some for personal reasons, others to attempt to herd people into accepting a censoring mechanism that they can control.

Once we know they are trolling, muting them allows them to troll by themselves to their heart's content.

Good idea.

In my view the buyer needs to pay for the food in advance. If the delivery person is trolled multiple times, this could get expensive and time consuming.

The first time you hire a runner, you might ask them to buy, let's say, a pack of eggs. As they fulfill the order and deliver it satisfactorily you can then slowly increase the order magnitude.

Pament for the shopping + delivery (let's say $10) could be done when they arrive at your doorstep.

Yup, same pattern. Over 90% of Norwegians have had at least one jab. I helped convince at least one colleague to stop taking more jabs. I was kinda the crazy bitcoiner and conspiracy theorist at my workplace.😅
