A Love Letter to the Nostr Community:

Hi Nostr fam!

You probably don't know me and likely don't care who I am, but I wanted to just say thank you.

You see, 2 days ago I signed on to Nostr for the first time. And within hours of signing up, I was inundated with words of encouragement, love, welcome, and all the good things you can think of. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, which was awesome!

I'm a 20-something y.o. guy living in South Africa. A country that is socialist in everything but name. A country that condones songs (like the infamous "Kill The Boer") where people who look like me are the targets of vile attacks. There are laws in my country which specifically disadvantages white people in our economy. I was born the year after Nelson Mandela came to power, yet I bear the burden of discrimination and disadvantageous laws regardless.

BUT! I am not a victim. I've never seen myself as one and I never will. I work and strive and push myself every day so that I can help take care of my family.

But that doesn't mean I'm not grateful when people help me.

That's why I wanted to say thank you to everyone here. When I joined, you guys helped me set up my lightning wallet and then proceeded to send me zaps for quite a while.

And while it likely isn't much to you, for someone living in an African country under the burden of discrimination laws, the zaps you sent me ended being a game-changer. From just a few kind strangers, I've managed to get enough money that I could cover a week's groceries or ensuring I have money to cover water & electricity.

I joined Nostr on a whim after hearing about it on a BTC podcast. I was orange-pilled out of necessity due to the tough economic climate here.

But after seeing what can be accomplished by a community of Bitcoiners on a decentralized platform, I'm just blown away.

If this is what the future holds, then perhaps things aren't as hopeless as they seem.

So once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Thank you to everyone who helped me realise that there is hope in the future. Thank you to everyone who is playing a part in this decentralized revolution.

I know someone in my distance family, the wife has a small business in her name, go bankrupt, could'nt pay back what she own. Now everything she and her housband earn is taken directly at employer before it hits their account, minus was is the bare minimum to live according to governement rules (not in US but I guess it might be the same in US). And the bare minimum calculated for their family with kids is super low, they can pay rent of a shitty appartement in the middle of nowhere, some cheap bad quality food, electricity, slow internet and gas for an old shitty car to go to work which is of course far away and not well paid.

No restaurant, no traveling on holiday, no Netflix, no theater, kids can play football or run as a sport but not much more.

Modern slaves.

I guess SBF should have all is fortune taken and all is income taken minus maybe a couple thousands dollsr per month for living. Justice should be the same for all.

Layer 1 is for storing.

Layer 2 doesn’t have to be non custodial; this is an anti-consumer Bitcoin Cult Narrative that doesn’t take practicality or Bitcoins future into account.

The Cult doesn’t care about utility for ordinary users; all they care about is the narrative on paper in specifications.

Wallet of Satoshi is growing fast and is super reliable, serving the consumer brilliantly. Users needing long term storage can leverage other tools that are non custodial.

Solving people’s problems is key; they need both to spend AND to store. Specifications on paper are not the way to judge the benefits of designs for consumers; fulfilling the needs of real people is the actual test.

And Wallet of Satoshi is passing that test. BIGLY.
