I think the data from the last decade says different. The Incarceration rate had fallen dramatically during the last decade while the number of people held in mental institutions hasn't gone up. And the violent crimes had fallen also.

It's a shame. I mean telegram never was the most private messenger, but it was alright, and beside that, it had a large user base and a lot of cool features. Also with its channels, was a good social media too.

I live in iran, and under heavy internet censorship telegram was my best outlet to the world. Durov compromised after getting arrested but for the decade before that, i think he did pretty good.
