While I'm on paternity leave, I'm trying to spend deliberate one on one time with each of my older kids. This morning was fort building with my 4 year old. He was more interested in continually adding on than actually playing inside. He did insist on a trip wire to keep his sisters out.

That's a good idea. Does it cut down on dust?
Good luck! But I'm reminded of the proverb, Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

My Bride birthed our 5th child this morning, a healthy boy. So many thoughts going through my head, mostly just grateful for the gift of another life to steward.

Ol' Henrietta didn't read the instructions...
My wife drove around without the registration sticker for 2 years because the DMV kept sending it to our old address. She was only stopped twice, both times "the system" was down so they couldn't verify her story and let her go.
I think posting stuff like this can grow NOSTR especially it you add another hashtag like #thestateisinept or #randomthoughts

The book I'm currently reading. A Guide to Kansas Mushrooms. 300 pages of all the known mushrooms in Kansas as of 1993 and their edibility.

Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief, officer or ruler,
she prepares her food in summer, and gathers her sustenance in harvest.
How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a vagabond, and want like an armed man.
Got a reminder this morning about being a good ant...

Working on the server on the esp32 micro controller irrigation timer. Yes it's python (technically micropython), I might get ragged on for that :D. I've built stuff in C for microcontrollers but micropython is pretty cool and super fast to put things together on these esp32's.

Looks like fun. I've spent a lot of time with Arduino on the esp and python but haven't tried micropython on the esp. I feel like I'm going to have to add another project to the list.
No, i just use straw as mulch. I tried straw bale gardening before but I can't find bales cheap enough to make it worth it.

Put out some pepper starts tonight. Had to improvise a wind break to keep the south wind from beating them up.

The hens have been super busy, 9 eggs from 9 hens for 11 days out of the last 2 weeks

Might want to rethink rubber bands, they'll break eventually, use some of Jack's reusable cable ties or just string.

I shared one video of this series earlier this week. I have now taken it all and made a full play list of the series. This is inspiring as to what can be done with very low tech approaches on very harsh land.
Imagine what could be done on a few thousand acres of marginal land. Please make time to watch this, it will inspire you in ways you can't imagine.

I started after you posted that first video. Episode 4 was amazing, starting a forest on literal bedrock.

probably not ideal, but cut up a DeWalt box that just came in and threw this together. I’ll add it in.
