I'm no longer surprised. One of my favorite moments was when I saw the last James Bond movie in 2020/21. I've always been a James Bond fan. Every movie. Books, too.
My wife and I went to the movie theater and after the movie I said to my wife,

I've been thinking this morning about Christians and non-Christians who use other people as pawns in the politics and wars of this world. To me they are the same sorcerers and witches. They use different language to communicate to different groups but they are one and the same.
The Christians know all that is biblical except that they cleverly disguise their actions using others to do the dirty work. Innocent or intended they know that they would not do the deed for fear of losing salvation. They of course lose because they have accumulated the spoils materially as automatons.
The non-Christian believes in karma and he or she wants to make sure they manipulate others to do deep and dark activities in order to better their material existence. They've been convinced that other humans are sheep to be culled, corralled, cultured and cultivated. They believe in multiple lives and they can't even live one life right. They of course lose, also.
No one of us is not a sinner. This is the fun part about being a Christian. There is no difference between the sweet old lady sinner and the deep dark pedophile, blood sucking warlock politician. None, there is no difference. Both will go to hell when they've exhausted this gift of life. No rebirth. No second chance. None of the new age nonsense.
Without Christ our end is the same. God gave us this life, freedom and the tools to make good and to recognize the source we becoming more powerful through his grace.
Jesus cursed a fig tree and made it wither. This shows that our fruits determine whether we are worthy or not.

It's a multi faceted meaning here. Jesus doesn't say that we must manipulate others to get the right things. He doesn't say that we should hope for good fruit. He says that whatever we pray for with faith we shall get and that the things that are here we use if they have good fruit. Otherwise let them wither and go away.

We don't need icons but I have been attracted to Saint George slaying the dragon and I've written about this extensively. George was my grandfather's first name. George is the "husbandman" of the land. The name means from the earth.

Today, think of yourself slaying the dragon. This is the lower nature of man. This is the reptilian mind. This is the fruitless fig tree.
With confidence we pray and ask forgiveness from God. We are grateful Christ has paid our fare and we honor him by being the tree producing good fruit. The sin is our thinking that we are in charge and our success is by machinations. It's that simple. We do better because we have freely surrendered to the will of God.
It certainly takes work. You have to do something anyway while you are here so do what makes good fruit and slay the dragon.
