Today’s Mesh Radio FOMO Post:
How to add GPS to a Helltec V3 Meshtastic node.
Mesh radio is really taking off right now. What CB was in the 1970s it is looking like Mesh radio is going to be for the 2020s.
Decentralized freedom tech for the future.
These digirig devices are power tools for ham radio. You can use them with a computer to be a modem over radio. You could do this on a cheap $20 radio. Think about that.
Digirig also make cables specific for every ham radio you are likely to come across. This means you don’t need the same radio as shown here. They will work for all major operating systems, Windows, Mac & Linux etc.
I highly recommend getting one and cables for your main radios.
These devices open up possibilities that we must explore.
You don’t have to but…

Mesh radio devices are the 3rd most scarce item.
1. Time
2. Bitcoin
3. Mesh Radio Boards nostr:note1hxz9hej7v93xldqu55zerk8meynrj7vqkwmlnyqwe76e3a7z9mvszmjy9g
Ham Radio License Test Preparation:
1. Use HamStudy.org: HamStudy is a free website that provides practice tests for all ham radio licenses. It can help individuals prepare for their exams and find online or in-person test sessions. www.hamstudy.org
2. Check Out W4EEY on YouTube: W4EEY on YouTube offers excellent ham radio tutorials. He has playlists covering all ham radio license levels and occasionally conducts live classes. This resource can be valuable for learning ham radio concepts. Here are the playlists for the various licenses:
• Tech Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpziUWPBT3rOvSV6MCCeCaiK0
• General Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpziv2a26B_IoQ1RbXbIqieP2
• Extra Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpzh7NC1WVKwCCmOTULSj1f93
3. Explore ARRL and Local Clubs: The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) website can help individuals find local ham radio clubs. These clubs often have information about local repeaters, club meetings, and ham radio "nets" (radio meetups). It's a good way to connect with other ham radio enthusiasts in your area. The National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ) is a large area of land designated to minimize electromagnetic interference that could affect the performance of radio telescopes and other sensitive electronic equipment. Spanning approximately 13,000 square miles, it is located in the states of West Virginia, Virginia, and a small part of Maryland in the United States. Established in 1958, the NRQZ provides a protective shield for the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia and the Sugar Grove Station in Virginia, which are involved in radio astronomy and intelligence gathering operations, respectively.
Within the NRQZ, restrictions are placed on all types of radio frequency transmitters to prevent interference with the sensitive equipment. This includes not only commercial broadcasts but also smaller scale transmissions from mobile phones, Wi-Fi routers, and even microwave ovens in certain areas. The enforcement of these restrictions is managed by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which work together to ensure that new and existing transmissions comply with the NRQZ's strict guidelines.
Living or working within the NRQZ comes with unique challenges, but also benefits, such as a natural environment with reduced electronic noise and light pollution, offering a unique setting for both scientific research and a quieter way of life.
Our mission is to bring Bitcoin Plebs & Devs into ham radio in order to help the bitcoin community to achieve technical proficiency in radio communication techniques so that they will be able to contribute to advancing the radio arts in alignment with the ethos of Bitcoin.

Who will be the first to build such a device?

Run a private Bitcoin node without internet using radio waves from a Satellite using parts you can acquire for ~$100 in fiat.
This would be an awesome project for your Bitcoin meetup or ham radio club.

Just had an idea about how we could bring our values more into the radio space:
⚡️⚡️⚡️Hierarchical Deterministic Call Signs⚡️⚡️⚡️
⚡️ Would normalize public private key pair communications on RF
⚡️ Think CSPub CSPriv key pairs (CallSignPub & CallSignPriv)
⚡️ Operators could declare their CSPub
⚡️ You could verify who you are communicating with
⚡️ Verifiable collaborative messages
⚡️ Brings an element of increased privacy
⚡️ & more
Note: This would not be allowed under current rules, but if we could spec this out, we could get some big discussions going that are long overdue.
This conversation would also be a first introduction to these concepts to a lot of very smart electrical engineers who are into radio. This conversation could get them started down the rabbit hole into our world.

You gotta pump those radio merit badges numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.
Also, it’s time for a Bitcoin merit badge. We need to prepare the boys of today for the world they will inherit.
This is a very clear visual explanation of how mesh network hop settings impact your network.

AustinMesh is doing a lot of great work on YouTube and other legacy platforms advancing knowledge about deploying and building mesh network communities. I recommend checking them out wherever you can.
Additionally, if you are a member of an amateur radio group, bring up meshtastic and projects like the one in the video link as potential club projects that will bring in new people into radio.
If you never participated in a club, show up to a local group and when you introduce yourself, let them know that you are interested in things like this. They won’t all be interested, but many will be.
Also, let me know if you have or see any radio projects posts you would like me to repost.
