People who say this like its a bad thing don't understand how to bootstrap networks.

100,000 users on a network talking about 100,000 different topics dies in a matter of days, because there's literally nobody to talk to about *your* topic and no cohesion at all in the network. 100,000 users in one community is a solid network.

Look at every successful network in history, it *always* starts with an atomic, self sustaining network around a single community or purpose.

- Amazon. Only sold books.

- Uber, Lyft, and pretty much any rideshare service. All got a critical mass in ONE city before expanding.

- Airbnb. Started exclusively and got success in San Francisco.

- Napster. Started with almost exclusively music

- Facebook. Exclusively Harvard students

- Twitch.tv started as just one guy streaming his life and then targeted gamers.

- Pinterest, focused entirely on "mom-bloggers"

This list goes on and on. What he is describing is literally *the only way alternative networks are ever successful.* So contrary to the idea that this is bad, it's actually the only reason Nostr is still here. Because you can find most of the best bitcoiners, tons of great holistic lifestyle content, and cypherpunks wanting to build awesome shit.

That's actually a fantastic start and we should LEAN INTO THIS MORE, not steer away from it. We do so at our own detriment if we just complain about and fail to embrace the community we DO have.

- Tinder. Literally grew itself locally one frat and sorority party at a time.

Nostr is like a Bitcoin meetup 👌

We're all on a journey. Mine is going like this

1. Buy BTC

2. HW wallet

3. Home server

4. Run BTC node

5. Run lightning node

6. Connect lightning wallet

7. Play around with nostr apps

Not sure where this is all going but I'm enjoying the ride!

Trump knows how to play people and is a master manipulator. I think he placates some (Putin) and is hostile to others who are supposed to be allies. Just to help his position in negotiations. Nothing he says should be taken at face value. It's all a play. In a way it works.

So my friends in lisbon who were very and extremely early to ETH are all full send into memecoins.

It’s kinda sad and sobering talking to them as the vibe is glib.

But then I remember they throw the lavish parties and live in villas with pools, expensive art and cleaners. lol.

Anyway. Their initial hope and belief that ethereum might actually provide some financial innovation or help, for example, millennials get a home with some clever on chain mortgage have evaporated.

There’s now Revolut, Wise, Monzo all sorts of neobanking solutions and the stuff they tried on ethereum doesn’t work as well nor have the traction of incumbent solutions.

The idealistic devs are now worn out and jaded. The ones remaining are now trying to secure the bag…Hence meme coins.

They’re a bit older than me, 33 to 41 ish and some of them are chatting kids.

So the focus is now: how we can 100x “popcoin” or some other meme junk so they can buy a restaurant and live quietly in Portugal.

They know it’s all scam bag pumping scheme and there’s a meme coin cabal running the meme space but they don’t care.

Secure the bag and GTFO is the play.

They’re wicked smart it feels a waste of talent.

And no, despite my best attempts they don’t understand bitcoin.

Two of them were hedgies before ethereum. The other two are hardcore devs from Germany who spent time in Silicon Valley.

I guess they’ve been comparatively rich for at least a decade and they don’t really see the separation of money and state part.

It’s sad and a bit funny.

I wish they’d see the orange light but part of me resents the shite they’ve peddled for years.

Ramble over.

Have a good evening Nostr ✌🏻
