Would you rather have the trait of invisibility or insensibility, or both, or neither, and why? šŸ” Not here to argue with the infinite opinions. Not here to ā€œbuild an audienceā€, but to literally use this for ā€œnotes and other stuffā€ (maybe I’m here to rebuild my sense of self … after a bunch of changes, experienced as traumatic) ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ’ āœļø I would like these to not exist: - poverty - pollution in LCOL areas - factory farms, slaughterhouses - war

It falls under the category of stories about a person’s ā€˜awakening’. I think any genre can go with that important theme, and do it in their own style. The style could be light, or dark/heavy/cynical+hopeful. I think the Matrix is in the 2nd group.

just saw this from someone who apparently works with AI technology. Currently I think AI is helping the average person (me, for one). I’ve had very therapy-like chats with it (which has a social aspect), and learned about financial planning and stuff so (informational), it’s been very practical.

#socialisolation

I think I mainly feel ā€œsocial isolationā€ after 7:30 pm during long winters. (Every winter eventually feels like a long winter ha).

It’s like, the light is too dim to wanna do any desk stuff. My vision has gotten sensitive to light/dark contrasts (I sometimes get ophthalmic migraines, so need reduced screen time), so it’s actually not really ā€œsocial isolationā€ but something that has been written about in literature since at least 200 years ago … what they called ā€œthe tedious hoursā€. Especially in winter.

Also, something else that gets lumped under the word ā€œsocial isolationā€ is just that life has a repetitive aspect. Whether you’re married with kids, or a college student with a core friend group since highschool, or a couple with pets, there’s a repetitive aspect to daily life… even if you do occasional out of the ordinary things like go on a 3 day ski trip, or take a month-long vacation.

#thoughts

🩶 ā€œ Which is more important; … to make a million dollars, or to enjoy your life in your effort, little by little, even though it is impossible to make that million; to be successful, or to find some meaning in your effort to be successful? If you do not know the answer, you will not even be able to practice zazen; if you do know, you will have found the true treasure of life. ā€œ

So, I had this science fiction story in my mind for over a decade, but never had time to write it due to everything else I had to work on. It was always on my long-term to-do list.

When AI started to take off a bit over the past few years, I was like, "Jeez, I don't know if it'll be any good, but If I don't write this thing, it might turn into historical fiction rather than science fiction." More realistically, I'd have to keep adjusting it every five years because the future is now.

But things have a tendency to align. Or maybe I just look on the bright side. Because another big component of the story is about social media causing increased social isolation if we're not careful with it, etc.

Since we're doing some large construction work in Egypt over this past year, my husband and I have had to spend more time apart than ever (he's managing the project there, while I have to manage our obligations here, and we travel to each other when we can).

I work from home. So, sometimes during this period I have days where I wake up, go for a walk, work, do an interview about finance online, exercise, go back to work, then go to sleep, and never speak to someone in person. Just me in the house and being the weirdo trying to get 10k steps in the sun around the neighborhood.

That both gave me insight into how that type of isolation can affect people (luckily temporarily in my case), and also ironically gave me time to finally write the thing, which helped me deal with the aforementioned isolation.

it *is* interesting (and sad) to think about social isolation as people grow up and become adults, then older adults. Maybe social media is a factor. This social isolation theme comes up *a lot* in r/adulting. I tend to think social media generally helps, for those who are more on the introvert side. Adults tend to move to different states, or even countries… or have kids. Work a lot. Thinking of neighborhood interactions, it’s odd how those range from small talk politeness to casual friendliness, but then online (reddit), people share the most detailed, blunt, painful and vulnerable feelings, thoughts and experiences of their lives. It’s a weird contrast.

every person obviously cares about their health, physical and mental-emotional, and everyone is aware of their own energy levels on a daily basis. Individuals gotta make their own choices. For me, eating mostly vegetarian has been working out pretty well compared to when I eat junk foods or meals heavy on red meat, salt, and fried at high temps.

therefore, I cut out red meats, and sharply reduced white meats. Been doing this since the 3rd grade.

I don’t know about other carnivorous animals, however, what I’ve learned about dogs is that they have much shorter digestive systems compared with humans, which is better for digesting meat. Humans have much longer digestive systems, which is better for digesting plants.

I just looked at Ben Wehrman’s profile … he has some … beliefs. He thinks the holocaust is a hoax? He thinks vaccines are fake? And he thinks nationalism is the true diversity? o…..k…….. that was totally unexpected.

that is a bot, not an AI assistant, that would be cool, in my wish list for Nostr this year...

How to put an LN in your profile?

You have several options, the easiest

nostr:nprofile1qqsz5sh8nvqh8twfmk69pjv3n4w2fdwcmqsswql5jft3gnvrlx4v9mcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0uxsthn@npub.cash

add it in Amethyst or any other client as your LN address

that is your npub address followed by @npub.cash . Anyone can do the same, to check your balance you can go to npub.cash and go to wallet, use an extension like nos2x-fox if on Firefox or AKA if on Brave to add your private key (nsec) and sign into your wallet with it.

to complex?

go to the Android store and install Waller of Satoshi, open it, set it up. Copy the wallet address created for you and add it to your profile.

don't use NWC (network Wallet connect), when zapping someone, the wallet of Satoshi will open from tge client for you to zap.

hope this helps

thank you! Yeah this will be my next lil project re: Nostr and getting used to it.

oh cool. Yeah I see your posts are talking about micropayments or something … I would like to figure out how to set up the zap / lightning wallet thing, just cuz it’s cool to have that option! Although I want to avoid feeling like I’m posting just to get a small payment.

cool. I like lofi music, so soundscapes sound similar.

#introductions follow up - first time using a decentralized social media app.

It feels like a mix of Reddit and Threads, except that everyone on here seems to be a self-selecting bunch of people who value decentralization in its two major forms (in social media, and in finance). So, for that reason, I’m liking it.

haha I like all of those things except ā€œcarnivoreā€. I think eating red meat is really unhealthy for the body and the environment. I think I’ll probably just ā€œlurkā€ a bit and get used to this whole deso thing.

thank you for explaining! It gives me a few more questions though don’t feel the need to personally respond haha. I would want to use Damus Nostr, though I might wanna also try pixelfed, the one that is like Instagram.

what does that distinction mean about Bluesky being ā€œfilteredā€ not decentralized? šŸ¤” that might be a question for chat gpt later…

yeah I was confused about that too considering that I first heard about nostr from an interview he and Lyn had like several months ago.
