It’s so someone like Jack Dorsey can use their own domain to prove who they are. For example, he used to be verified with cash.app. Though I think he decided he didn’t like NIP 05 for some reason, so he doesn’t anymore.
It also makes it easier to search people.

The current Nostr client engineers have good intentions, but they don’t know what they’re doing.
Plebstr just randomly resets my relays every hour or so. I can’t figure out why it’s doing this
Damus may have shit threading but at least the other basics work.
Guess I’m going back to Damus. My relays keep getting reset to default.
Iris basically solved this problem months ago, or at least put a decent cut of tape over it. I have no clue why other clients aren’t doing any filtering on accounts outside your network.
Probably they just don’t care.

Yes, it is vulnerable to every conceivable method of spam right now. There are client side solutions but none of the good ones use them.

Ditto makes Mastodon clients work with Nostr, and my understanding is it’s eventually going to do more. It’s not done though. Posts show up all out of order, a lot of stuff is missing, etc.
But if you just want to tab over, refresh the page, post, see and like some other recent posts, it works.
I also need something it has, that most other Nostr web clients don’t have.
Soapbox over Ditto is surprisingly good for pre-alpha software.
