I’m a hobby collector and generally into anything creative. I’m also a software development manager working in the science arena. Trying to be a kind person. 🧢πŸͺ‘πŸŽ¨πŸ§¬πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’»πŸ§΅πŸ§«

I have a #yarn question.

I want to make my Mum a replacement for her old crocheted teddy bear. The original is long gone. I found the vintage pattern, but the yarn mentioned in the pattern is equivalent to a soft wool. The original bear was made from something fairly rough, almost scratchy, and I’m trying to recreate this.

The question: does anyone have any recommendations for rough, almost scratchy brown yarn in worsted or aran weight?

Crochet WIP.

Not sure how many rounds I’ll add to it. Keep going until I run out of yarn or patience??

I was clearing the attic today and decided it was finally time to let go of my old laptop from my Uni days.

Too old to be useful I thought β€œdamn, I’ll have to take out the HDD, that’ll be a faff”. Well, that turned out to be just 4 screws to undo. And turns out if you wanted to replace or upgrade the RAM, that was 1 screw to undo. Battery clipped in and out (so you could replace it or take a spare!).

As much as I love my Mac, the lack of ease for at home repairing or upgrading is ridiculous.

Well, if you feel you have too many in the future, I'm sure I could find a use for a few.

nostr:npub1ckwrw5k7ucwpmt76yy76zs6gyfyw0t5m8jmlrceqsqtl526h3daq95z9cs I’ll give you a shout when I’m finished with them.

Building a castle with Littlest. I have a suspicion this would be much faster if I wasn’t building it on my phone…

I’m working with bronze clay on a little project and I’ve forgotten how damn fragile it is! In fact, this project is turning out to be an f’ing nightmare.

I’ve repaired the crack that was showing and it might be ok. But it going to have to withstand some sanding and I’m not hopeful.

We watched John Wick 4 last night.

To be honest, I’m not sure what to make of it.

Was I missing a far deeper story (other than the film’s plot and the resolution of the story laid down in the previous three) being conveyed by the varied cinematographic styles at various stages? Was the sluggishness of the fights in places to accentuate the tiredness of the character? Was the dog meant to represent Anubis?

Or was it just a fight fest?

I need answers!!!

nostr:npub1k6hs8ly9yftxmvdj04z5fcus684nydgn7t8hqkw7ncwlkdaxzcsq8e0wx7 the author turns out to be a terrible TERF, so I couldn't bring myself to watch S2. S1 was brilliant though.

nostr:npub1wj857ayedqhxsjajfgu7tps332def983x8k663df6j7dzv4jtgwsy6s5yh oh… I never looked into the original books / author - I just enjoyed the show. Oh well (strikes another one off the list).

nostr:npub1k6hs8ly9yftxmvdj04z5fcus684nydgn7t8hqkw7ncwlkdaxzcsq8e0wx7 I think it was a source of grievance to my mother that I was making more an effort to learn Welsh and Russian (for fun) than maintaining my use of French, my actual mother tongue πŸ˜‚ nowadays I’m doing no languages though and I think this is unacceptable πŸ™„

You should definitely start doing another language!

Do you use Duo? I’d really like to learn Cornish / Kernewek, but Duo doesn’t have it. 😞

nostr:npub1k6hs8ly9yftxmvdj04z5fcus684nydgn7t8hqkw7ncwlkdaxzcsq8e0wx7 I’m addicted to history podcasts. I get A LOT of crochet done that way.

I like having the TV on so it feels like there’s someone else in the room. Art that made us and Civilisations on iPlayer are particular favourites. And anything with Dr James Fox 😊

Most of my crochet is done in the sliver of time between kid’s bedtime and my bedtime. I like to pop on an hour of art or history documentary I’ve seen before and listen to it rather than watch.

But on some evenings I can have a bit more time and luxuriate in having head phones in; noise cancellation on and listen to an entire albums without interruption - last night it was Kate Bush - Lionheart. There’s a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in that one.

nostr:npub1k6hs8ly9yftxmvdj04z5fcus684nydgn7t8hqkw7ncwlkdaxzcsq8e0wx7 Would be an amazing community space. But I guess if it's empty I guess the community didn't need a space enough.

The blurb says there's planning for a two storey residence, but splitting that space with a mezzanine or floor would be a crime.

It would make a lovely community space or a print making studio. I could see art on drying lines down one side with benches down the other. But… as you say, maybe the community doesn’t really want anything.

I really dislike two storey conversions in places like that. 😞

This is very cute. I hope someone buys it and doesn’t convert it into a house. There must be something else it could be used for?
