Our Founders understood that governments just do this over time.
Brett Weinstein has a great monologue discussing how corporations become evil over time. He’s an evolutionary biologist and he explains it as just self selective behaviors that are increasingly more and more selfish. He uses google in his example. It’s really worth a listen.
In any case, governments evolve in precisely the same way. Over and over for the last 5000 years.

—Then I discovered that he was washing his clothes, bringing them back to his room in the hamper and then using the hamper as a dresser.
