Old Boomer here... I've paid for a one year subscription, but I am only making use of vary few of the features. Basically only lurking, and making the occasional comment. I set up Alby extension on my FF browser a long time ago. I get notices to re-connect to the latest version; but I haven't been able to navigate the process. I've logged into the alby website, and it shows primal address; but I can't make sense of the instructions. Bottom line... it's way too complicated for old brains like mine. So I guess I won't be able to zap anyone; unless there's a simpler app than Alby

Blockstream Jade Plus: Full Setup & Honest Review

Thanks for the tutorial. I have several OG Jades, and would get the new model if the old ones no longer performed. One small point... I have yet to see a YT tutorial showing the passphrase feature during setup. There might be one; but so far I haven't seen it. Someone setting up a Jade in the way you showed might think they could later create a passphrase. But they would have to reset the device, go to "advanced", and re-enter the seed phrase in order to create a passphrase.

I don't know about the new model, but on the old Jade, it is not so clear how to create the passphrase. Maybe most people know what the little check mark and "x" on the bottom right of the screen mean; but I had to find out by trial and error. (i.e. the 'x' is to select case/digits and symbols needed to create a passphrase.

I know this (and most other) tutorials was for basic setup; but I think passphrases are becoming more accepted by plebs; and maybe shouldn't be relegated to tutorials along with the much more advanced mult-sig.

One other small point... this video mainly focused on the QR mode. You mentioned the Jade's anti-exfil protocol (AFAIK the only device other than BitBox 02 to have it); but this protocol only works with the USB cable connected. I asked a Blockstream mod on X about this and it was confirmed. So air-gapped is maybe not 100% effective.

One last thing. I like that you used Sparrow Wallet, and that it was in dark mode. Most videos use light mode, and I can't read them with my low res monitor. I also could not use QR mode on my OG Jades with my older laptop. My new laptop can manage it; but it's slow. I recently linked another Jade device to Sparrow; and the QR scan took a long time. I have three other OG Jades linked to Sparrow, and the expub was transferred via USB cable. Now it seems that is no longer an option with Jade on Sparrow. I could be missing something; but I could only see the QR option available.

Apologies if I misuse any terms. I'm just a low tech Boomer in a Bitcoin world.

A small point... “mass formation psychosis” (to use the Dr. Peter Malone term). I was sure that this was a term coined by a Belgian psychologist; but when I did a search every link seemed to be to Dr. Malone using the term on a Joe Rogan podcast. It was only after scrolling far down that I came to the name Mattias Desmet. I saw a lot of interviews with Dr. Malone during the plague; and I'm pretty sure he referred to professor Desmet when using "mass formation psychosis". Wikipedia has a Dutch language page for him: https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mattias_Desmet

I'm not religious. There is no combination of words in the English language that you can use to convince me otherwise.

Sometimes, though, I wish there was. To admit anything else would be a lie.

Christianity is on the rise amongst bitcoiners, and I sometimes think of my own experiences with religion because of this.

I grew up in America with the Greek Orthodox church. I was an alter boy, and I went to Greek school after normal school. We were taught Greek culture, religious topics, language, etc.

The church was my social center. More than that, it was an aesthetically pleasing place.

The Byzantine iconography. The smells of incense. The feel of the pews. The beautiful hymns chanted in Greek. The taste of the Eucharist.

As a youth & young adult, the divine liturgy was an experience for the senses. I wanted to believe. The idea of a greater power watching over us is very powerful. It gives a man purpose.

Alas, I could not believe. I do not believe. It's not me.

True believers show up every Sunday, but there are also the ones present for the social aspects. It's what they grew up with. They go through the motions, live their lives as decent humans, but are likely too afraid to confront their beliefs.

I couldn't respect myself if I did this. I can't be inauthentic to myself and to the true believers in attendance.

Being honest with myself meant leaving the church. It was like denouncing the club, removing myself from a social circle that was the foundation for much of my life.

It left a space that I've done my best to fill.

I think the world would be a better place if everyone lived by the general teachings of Jesus. If we were kind to others. Love your neighbor, forgive people, and all that. This is decent human behavior.

I try to live my life this way, but it is not easy.

This post isn't a cry for help. Deep down, I'm not trying to be convinced. Much like my journey with the carnivore diet, and diet in general, only my own experiences will convince me. I remain unconvinced.

I'm glad some of you are true believers, and I wish you peace and happiness on your spiritual journies. 🧡

Reading this I wondered if you had ever read Nikos Katzanzakis' "autobiography" 'Report to Greco'? Been years since I read it; but IIRC, his journey took him through atheism/socialism/Buddhism/ and at the end, back to Orthodox Christian. In the '70s I was with a group of Buddhists visiting his grave in Heraklion and read his famous epitaph: “Δεν ελπίζω τίποτα. Δε φοβούμαι τίποτα. Είμαι λεύτερος". (I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.)

I'm all in on bitcoin. If it fulfills all of its promise, and enables a quantum leap for human society, it is still a worldly thing... immanent. The Buddha Dharma is transcendent. A "perfect world" is still caught up in suffering. Bitcoin, great as it is, is not going to get us off the wheel of rebirth.

Sorry if I'm being dumb here; but what do you mean by "it works"? I know the device works w/Sparrow Wallet; but does the protection against this darkskippy threat work on Sparrow as well as on the BitBox app?

Low IQ Boomer here... I like my BitBox02, but I prefer to use it on Sparrow Wallet. From reading the "Mitigations", I gather that the exfiltration threat can only be avoided by using the BitBox app. Is this correct?

"Latest" checked... but "Latest with replies" won't check. How to fix?

Gary's been in government for a long time... first CFTC, now SEC. But he was/is a creature of Wall St. Imagine his inner turmoil... if he screws Larry Fink, and regime change costs him his gov gig, he'll never work on the street again. He's likely set money-wise; but to be shunned by Wall St?... it's a shonda!

Can log in, but get "let's go" button that lists accounts to follow. That's it...

Then you know when you're bleeding a guy you don't squeeze him dry right away. Contrarily you let him do his bidding, suavely, so you can bleed him next week, and the week after... at minimum.

Been using ledger for 4 yrs. Much improvement in user experience in that time. Ledger Live at first was difficult to read... no dark mode/small font. Nano S was also finicky, and hard on my old Boomer eyes. Nano S+ much better. Being old, I have to keep it simple; so 24 words plus passphrase seems safe enough. Coldcard, much as I'd like to support a Canadian bitcoin-only company, is just too complicated. Been thinking about checking out Blockstream Jade.

After years of using a not-too-bad VPN (Boleh) I came to Mullvad and can't say enough good about it. It's app makes for easy use with Linux.

I'm a boomer with no great memorization skills. I wrote my 24 words on 4 index cards. Day one stared at the first 6 words and kept repeating them. Did a few 10/15 minutes sessions. Next day repeated the first 6 from memory and then went on to card 2. And so on, not progressing until the previous words were memorized. When all 24 were somewhat memorized I repeated them every day. Eventually it all stuck and now can go weeks on end without thinking about them; but can recall them at will .

Have to admit I'm feeling the FUD. As price climbs the wall of worry I keep fretting about "operation choke-point". But under these turbulent obsessions I glimpse a flutter of hope. As financial chaos rages the need for Bitcoin has to be seen.
