A year ago, who would have thought that this message would have appeared on nostr?

Yeah, that's Casey's main point. He works in the game industry where nanoseconds count for a lot. He wrote a gaming framework that I think is pretty popular. So his focus was on deep CPU bound issues that most of us seldom encounter.

>I’ve now watched Casey’s video and skimmed the discussion. The video was about a CPU-bound program. Most of the software I’ve worked on has been I/O-bound. I’m not sure I would have noticed a difference had I adopted anti-clean-code principles.
Would you like me to create a video/audio where I read the whole thing aloud? It's not very long.

He kicked the whole discussion off with a youtube video that was highly critical of Clean Code.

Other people wanted me to respond and that led to the github discussion.

So far it's all been conducted on github: https://github.com/unclebob/cmuratori-discussion/blob/main/cleancodeqa.md
There are no current plans for a video; but you never know about things like that.

Good Morning Nostronians. I've got a SOLID class to teach this morning, so I'll have to push more-speech development to this afternoon. However, I woke up early and did a few experiments. Using the REPL I manually evicted a few thousand of the oldest events from my XTDB database. I had thought this would reduce the physical size of the DB. Instead, the DB _grew_ in size.
Hmmm. Given that the DB is currently 13GB and is growing rather rapidly, I'm going to need a way to remove old events and reclaim that space. I wonder if I'll have to resort to copying one DB to another and just copying the events I want to keep. Ick.
I posted a question on the XTDB forum. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
Good Night Nostroids. I'm back home now, and I've sent the illustration descriptions to my artist. So production on Functional Design is underway.
This discussion has been pretty interesting, but I think it's starting to wind down.

Do you think I need more than 16 bits? That's what I'm set to right now.

Good Morning Nostricans.
Today my wife and I return to Northern Illinois for a few days to deal with "real life". But we'll return to our northern hideaway before the coming weekend begins. It's just too nice up here to stay away for long.
In the mean time, I've got some plans for more-speech percolating in my mind.
Fun!

I like this api. Are you planning on leaving it up all the time?

I have the id of an event I'd like to read; but that event is not on any of the relays I subscribe to. Is there a service that will query relays for an id and let me know which relays contain it?
I'm not sure where this conversation is headed; but so far I'm enjoying it.

...and...Functional Design is off to the publisher.
Next comes copyedit, illustrations, page proofs, and then finally, publication.

...and they can stop reading my posts, but they can't stop me from reading theirs.
Good Sunday Morning Nostripolatains: And 'tis a lovely morning here in the upper nethers. The Sun is shining, the air is still, and the lake glistens. And I am almost done reviewing my manuscript.
Design and programming are human activities; forget that and all is lost.
