In capitalism, the person who owns a resource can also control what is done with it. In a socialized economy, this isn't true because there is no longer any owner. Nonetheless the problem of control remains. Who is going to decide what is to be done with what? Under socialism, there is only one way: people settle their disagreements over the control of property by superimposing one will upon another. As long as there are differences, people will settle them through political means.

If people want to improve their income under socialism they have to move toward a more highly valued position in the hierarchy of caretakers. That takes political talent.

Under such a system, people will have to spend less time and effort developing their productive skills and more time and effort improving their political talents.

As people shift out of their roles as producers and users of resources, we find that their personalities change. They no longer cultivate the ability to anticipate situations of scarcity to take up productive opportunities, to be aware of technological possibilities, to anticipate changes in consumer demand, and to develop strategies of marketing. They no longer have to be able to initiate, to work, and to respond to the needs of others.

Instead, people develop the ability to assemble public support for their own position and opinion through means of persuasion, demagoguery, and intrigue, through promises, bribes, and threats. Different people rise to the top under socialism than under capitalism. The higher on the socialist hierarchy you look, the more you will find people who are too incompetent to do the job they are supposed to do. It is no hindrance in a caretaker politician's career to be dumb, indolent, inefficient, and uncaring. He only needs superior political skills. This too contributes to the impoverishment of society.

You're making me really appreciate following you

#WoT #WebOfTrust is (nearly) useless without tags or context. I might trust Bob entirely for #softwareDevelopment but not at all (or negative!) for #cooking advice.

Our social relationships and reputations are far more complex than a single trusted/not binary. The latter is how you get scary social credit systems, the former is how you build a functional #voluntaryist society where people freely associate along dimensions they choose (including with a single person)

But not "post to x relay" when writing a note. Nor "show notes from only z relay" in a feed...

I wonder why not? This seems obviously good

Working on a theory that nostr:npub19mun7qwdyjf7qs3456u8kyxncjn5u2n7klpu4utgy68k4aenzj6synjnft and Jim Rutt might be clones grown from the same (glorious) seed.

What's the story on posting to (and reading from) a subset of relays in an organized manner?

Example use case: you have a neighborhood relay where local residents post _some_ of their notes, and other residents can view notes from _just_ that relay at will. (Effectively nostr-NextDoor but without having to build anything)

As far as I can tell this would be enabled merely by some client features ("post to..." On note creation, "Relay xyz filter" on feeds, etc.). Am I wrong about that? Do any current clients offer this?

The very concept of unbiased information (above a certain level of complexity - and even determining what that level is may itself be a subject of infinite debate) is absurd.

They're dead in the water before they start.

Such a disturbing and infuriating manner of speaking, too. Equally condescending and inviting of ridicule.

Changing the definition of "truth" to be anything OTHER than synonymous with "fact" is bullshit. the temperature at which pure H2O freezes is a fact and that fact is the truth of the situation.

the rub, though, is that at when you move up a few levels of abstraction and complexity from "water's freezing point", the truth of a given situation is so incomprehensibly complex (due to many many many simple facts all interacting) that it's essentially impossible to capture in a reasonable representation.

that does NOT, however, mean that "different people can have different truths" - there is only ever one truth and it does not play nicely with impostors. it just means that at the level of abstraction where one might want to use that awful phrase, what you're actually dealing with is *interpretation* of a complex system of facts. and opinions. and sorry, but they're _all_ wrong - with some being much wronger than others (capturing fewer facts accurately, or inaccurately interpreting more facts).

(case in point: try having "your truth" (different than mine - the correct one, reading from the chain) for a Bitcoin transaction and see if it makes you richer. we might have different _opinions_ about the way the transaction interacts with the complex world around it, but not about the incontrovertible fact of which sats went where.)

...all that said, subjectivity, freedom and private property are the greatest rights and thus everyone should be able to freely associate along the lines of shared opinion and interpretation, no matter how wrong they are (wikifreedia, webs of trust, peer to peer, etc). and they should do that by using tools that operate at the level of fact (cryptography, functional programming, blockhains, etc.)

you can send from the primal wallet but cannot receive to a lightning address.

I would recommend getting in touch with primal on Nostr or elsewhere and asking how to set this up. I unfortunately don't remember how I did it!
