Monday, 14th October 2024 - Two Scottish Otters

This morning Lindsey dropped in. We had tea. I love hearing about her weekend adventures.

Later Ray came by with a misbehaving phone. It mended itself! Over coffee we chatted about 'to move or not to move'.

Tim and I went for a misty walk through the soggy fields of Benenden this afternoon. We both needed to stretch our lazy legs.

Bill, my bed and breakfast guest, knew of my passion for making art. He paid with a Scottish ten pound note as he thought I would like the image on the back of two otters. I did and do. Today's postcard is my linocut interpretation of the otters. Thank you Bill for your thoughtfulness.

Thursday, 10th October 2024 - Nuthatch and Portraits

I am home from a portrait session with WOKAS. Thank you Wendy for giving me paper and pencil. I have a glass of white wine and binging on a Sci-fi film.

These are my portraits. They don't look very much like Cliff but at least they look like a man.

The birds are very busy in the garden. There was a nuthatch being bullied by a bluetit on the bird table. Today's postcard is of the feisty nuthatch using watercolour crystals.

I had no idea how bad it was until finding out that my friends in Asheville haven't been in contact with anyone since 7:30AM.

We suspect they are ok and we know that my best friend is out with the search and rescue crew in the area, but his wife is at home with a small baby without power and hopefully with enough supplies to make it through. But the whole area in Western NC looks awful and we have no idea how long before they can even be reached. I've tried to collect as much as I can quickly for what's going on.

Blowing Rock and Boone, NC have been hit seriously bad, we literally go there every year, its one of our favorite places in the world.

Chimney Rock has been essentially wiped out and there is still danger of the Lure Lake dam breaking, but so far it seems to have held even though the water is flowing over it. I haven't heard anything new from that and hopefully the biggest danger is past now.

My friend's parents are trapped in Black Mountain, NC (not far from Asheville) but we've gotten word from them they the road has been destroyed and they are trying to figure out how to get to my friend's wife and get out, but it seems there are no roads accessible. It's all just an asstounding mess.

A lot of these places literally have just one or two roads in and out of them, and it seems like main accesses all over the place have just been decimated. Praying for these guys.

Monday, 30th September 2024 - Coffee Pot

I had a chat with someone today. They didn't know about by Connected Postcard Project. I thought that many of you may not either. So here it is ..... Every day for the 366 days of this year I am painting/printing a postcard and sending it to family, friends old and new. They can keep them or send them onto a friend. I have had some wonderful replies.

What a treat of a day it's been. I got up and put on my yoga kit. After a mug of tea, putting away the shopping Tescos delivered and a coffee, Adriene and I spent 46 minutes on the yoga mat. I haven't done any yoga for weeks. I stretched bits that I haven't stretched for ages and it felt so good.

I had a zoom meeting with a couple of other artists, I wasn't sure what to expect. It was great to talk about art to other people who understand our passion even if it is our favourite brush. I did a linocut of a coffee pot while we were zooming.

This evening Tim was in London. Tom cooked me the most delicious meal of creamy mushroom pasta topped with perfectly cooked steak. We ate it watching Back to Black drinking a glass or two of white wine. Thank you Tom I very much appreciated being cooked for.

Sunday, 29th September 2024 - A Copper Anniversary

It is our anniversary today. Seven years ago we got married on a windy but sunny day in the lighthouse at Dungeness. It was a very happy day.

Today's postcard is for Tim. Copper symbolises our 7 year anniversary. I painted the lighthouse we got married in using my homemade copper and willow inks.
