I want apps to directly use NWC and thus connect to the hub, for increased interoperability independence.

but building on lightning is still a pain, and getting it reliable with all the moving parts is still close to impossible.

our focus is on Alby Hub and creating a smooth, self-sovereign wallet built on NWC to be used with all the apps that integrate open source money.

I believe the tech and time is slowly ready for this.

I said "probably" because some features will be missing. E.g. our channel recommendations, or the channel auto-pilot, or email notifications. Those features then will have some static defaults or will require you to do something manually (like choose an LSP, setup the LNURL, monitor, ...)

Currently Alby Hub is connected with the account and it links them together and loads some LSP info from the backend for example.

Currently the account is required (most people also want the ln address etc.) But in a future version it will probably also be fully stand-alone.

do you have one or more wallets in your extension? - those have different keys.

For example you can run it on digital ocean, cloudzy, or on the cheapest plan of any VPS hoster you like.

It's somebody else's computer, but it is completely different to a custodial setup as the hoster does not have access to your keys. Keys and sensitive data is stored encrypted and only available in memory when the node is running.

Now one can say somebody can read the memory, which is correct and applies to anything that is hosted online.

And one can go a step further and say it's also somebody else's OS that we rely on. (if you don't build it yourself 😉 )

So depending on how deep you want to go you rely on something.

But that's why our goal with Alby Hub is to be able to run it in the very different environments to have a solution for whatever the user's requirements are. (from a pi zero to the cloud)

Free cloud will be hard, because somebody has to pay for the resources.

We might experiment with different methods at some point. (e.g. based on usage)

But you can choose any cloud provider right now.
