The way lightning works currently both sender and receiver have to be online.
so also Alby Hub needs to be online, the easiest is to run it on some device that is always on (or a cloud service)
if it’s offline or locked no payments can be made.
you need to use Alby Hub - that’s where the sats are then.
Alby Go or your nostr client use the Alby Hub.

I think we had a node restart sadly.
It's hard to integrate in terms of APIs and the usage is not that high.

On my laptop i am using nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm browser extension which is pretty cool but I have to migrate this either to Start9 where I understand I would have to use LND and not CLN or I am migrating towards Alby hub cloud, correct?
The aim would be to integrate CLN with alby but that doesn’t seem possible yet. Also the NWC extension on Start9 seems to only work with LND, am I missing something?

yep, alby hub does not work with CLN.
there is a NWC plugin for CLN afaik. those could potentially be used. then it works nicely with the extension.
but I don’t know about the status of that plugin
Indeed I don’t think Alby hub works with Core Lighting. I looked into it too. It does seem to work with Greenlight which seems to be a Core lightning node in the cloud but you need an api key from Blockstream for that. https://blog.getalby.com/the-6-different-lightning-backends-for-alby-hub/

we also actually currently deprecate greenlight and breez. for various reasons but it does not seem there is a clear path to make those generally accessible from.

yes! I thinks those ideas are the exciting ones. with lightning we can do much cooler stuff than just to scan some code and pay.
check in at the bar and each drink will just automatically be charged with NWC… they will not pay upfront, the bar can request a payment and has a budget…
(if your bar rugs you then you’re for sure in the wrong bar. I also expect my bar to serve me decent drinks ;) )

I can not speak for BTCPay but I know that there was some debugging going on in regards to how BTCPay subscribes to events.
To answer the question about the relay:
if the Alby relay is going away you just use a different relay. in that case you will have to reconnect the app (btcpay) to the wallet that you use again. (because the relay is set as part of the connection secret and the app and wallet need to know through which relay they have to communicate)
but that’s the beauty of NWC, it uses the default Nostr infrastructure and no special setup would be needed in that case.
