I am certain the response is not to the food in general, but specifically to glucose obtainable from carbs in food. External glucose always needs more external glucose. It is mostly that. The rest is simply boredom and search for distraction, no hormons involved. But if you remove the first reason, then when you will be tempted to eat by boredom, you will feel your stomack objecting.
