I don’t know the history there, the feature set in a coldcard is very different to a trezor these days. This thread is making me want to buy a blockclock😬
I’ll agree that it seems like an over-reaction given you’re either spending $400 on a blockclock or it’s a hard no and BTC Clock looks like a fun project. I’ve considered both as options. Still love NVK and coinkite i don’t think there is a Ledger “we like to know your seed” of dissonance.
Mmm dunno coinkite are probably sick of people ripping off their ideas and code and they are a for profit business. I don’t think the blockclock was ever advertised as FOSS. It is a unique product. I’m sure the people behind BTC clock had good intentions, agree there.
It already is for select transactions in select communities? In this a timeline thing. Using the internet as example.
1) what is it??
2) geeks use it
3) my kids use it
4) my friend uses it
5) I use it now and then
6) how did we live without the internet??
I’m a bit of a Swan simp, and their new account platform requires you to specify if you’re sending to self custody vs an exchange. They seem to be going or maintaining the direction of being ultra compliant. Personally not a fan of those questions and put a few questions in my mind. That said my opinion is that Swan have provided a solid service.

I still think Gary is a secret maxi.
Yup it’s available on start9. I think it’s a pre requisite for the mempool app so it will prompt you when you need it, I could be wrong that you have use it to connect sparrow to your node but that’s how I always do it
I generally don’t run tor only - but just connecting to a different WiFi and it will be fine. From memory start9 will have some tor connections and some regular ones in the mix.
If you want to run tor only and travel discreetly then Tails is pretty cool as it runs off a usb stick then and you just plug it into any old laptop to boot it up but that’s mostly for fun not required as a first step.
Lopp has some decent recommendations on home
VPN options on one of his blogs. That’s mostly what I use but it limited my ability to get inbound connections to my node. FWIW clearnet syncs way faster and still way more private than using a third party node.
One clarification when you connect sparrow to your own node or electrs it needs to be fully synced or sparrow won’t be able to transact because it isn’t up to date. This isn’t a problem - I leave my node off for weeks then sync it before i do anything in sparrow. However if your node is backing your lightning node then just leaving it running is the best policy.
Power loss is fine for a regular Bitcoin node it incrementally syncs from where it left off. I think the rule for lightning nodes is that you don’t want your node to be offline for more than 14 days as your channel partners could theoretically do sneaky things and steal funds. Ideally your lightning node is running 24/7 but a few hours or days of downtime should not be a big deal.
I miss the Carla fixes songs with Bitcoin versions content. I’d buy that album if it existed.
Just arrived in the mail - can’t wait to start running my own node 🤘🏼
For anyone holding Bitcoin, I think reaching this point is key, and learning the ins and outs along the way is pretty exciting. I’d love to hear any tips, tricks, or things to keep in mind for the setup, especially with setting up Lightning channels. The more insights, the better - thanks in advance!

I don’t know if you’ve ever done this before but I’d begin by:
1. syncing your own bitcoin node
2. syncing electrs, which is like a search engine for the chain that other apps can use
3. install Sparrow on a different machine and connecting it to your node by connecting to electrs
4. Install your own mempool.space instance
Then using that setup to transfer SMALL amounts of sats in sparrow to say blue wallet and back till you get confident.
Once you get there you can play with multisig in sparrow and get the hang of that too.
Oh and remember to keep Zeus open and online when you’re sending because otherwise the send will fail!
GM friends….who on NOSTR is running Core Lightning? Let me hear what you think vs LND. Currently have both running on my nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll Node. Didn’t know you could run both but apparently it’s not a big deal.
I liked core but lnd has more support for submarine swaps to get inbound liquidity I think. Then again with core I think you can just send yourself some sats to Zeus from core if you want to balance your channels.
All a government needs to do to build a bitcoin stack:
1) support and encourage hash rate in their country
2) allow miners to pay meaningfully reduced corporation tax if paid directly in BTC
3) sit back and passively accumulate
