Apparently the batshit insane way Masto search works currently made me think it was literally broken so this is only an additive change.

Real full text search of public posts has not ever existed in Mastodon. Mastodon only lets you search posts you have liked or replied to. Which is absolutely insane because it defeats the entire goddamn purpose of search.

The latest Mastodon beta will completely delete your full text search index if you have full text search enabled.

Then they are forcing users to click a setting five clicks deep in order to “opt-in” to search - when there is already a setting for search engine opt-in.

I'm thinking there are a lot of times where you would really want an operator there (ex. someone on the track or a weird bug happens).

I'm sure there are things that can be done to make their job easier, like a sort-of autopilot system. But do we really want that? That's just going to be used as a justification to pay them lower pay, and those come with their own bugs.

A large part of the reason why people leave is because people are overly friendly here or they post TONS of welcome guides, which makes Mastodon seem harder than it actually is.
