I find Bladerunner 2049 frustrating, because I *almost* love it.

The characters, themes, acting, and the overall plot structure are great, imo.

However, villains give melodramatic exposition monologues, villains leave heroes alive for no reason other than the plot needs them to, important things are left thinly guarded for no reason other than the plot needs the heroes or villains to easily get at them, etc. In other words, there are distracting writing/execution issues in what could otherwise be a masterpiece.

The first time I watched it, I didn't love it. It did stick with me though; I think about it sometimes, for years afterward. And watching it a second time I appreciated it more, but still was frustrated by the same things.

What does everyone else feel about it?

Receiving zaps from users is a way better incentive model than paying out a share of advertising revenue to posters based on engagement.

Zaps tend to reward quality and sincerity. Giving an advertising share in proportion to engagement rewards slop and rage.

The hardest part of my random crappy sci-fi novel hobby project, is going to be the first half of the third act.

The first two acts were very well outlined ahead of time. This story idea has been bouncing around in my head for a long time, and so when it became time to write it, most of it flowed easily.

And the climax of the third act has also been pretty well figured out for just as long.

It's that late-middle part that's still kind of a black box. The first half of the third act. It's not that I have nothing planned there, but rather it's like I have three potential paths to choose from, and various combinations between those paths.

Going to have to put a lot of thought into that section to tie the whole piece together.

It was using a Coldcard for the first time that I realized that this was serious business.

Make it too seamless and people won’t differentiate between self-custody and holding their wealth in an exchange wallet.

I don’t think indie published books are more likely to be mediocre. Instead, it’s just that there are *a lot* of them, and books in general. And so when there is a flood of like 3.6 out of 5 rated books, I just wonder who the audience is that goes and reads them.

Bitcoin is the perfect tool for charging money to people that want the service but don't want to give up any personal information. To my knowledge VPNs are about the only service that's really embraced this.

Even if your currency goes to zero against bitcoin. The likelihood of bitcoin going to zero against all other currencies is extremely low. This means it can act as safe haven for those in countries with failing currencies. The Western developed world is only beginning to see their currency fall against USD, although many developing nations have seen this scenario many times. In time, USD will fall against the dollar. With BRIC nations moving to gold reserves, perhaps there will be two competing reserves for the world as BRIC gains strength against USD. Even with a gold standard, those nations that adopt a Bitcoin standard will surpass them as cost to move, validate, and secure value across time and space will be infinitesimal compared to gold standards.
