its because monero is a shitcoin and searching for txs on blocks, even in a "light wallet", needs much time because need to decrypt like 1/4 of all the things in blocks to find output related to your wallet. If you remember your wallet has been generated last week, it will take only some minutes maybe.

I'll be super happy to run orbot in proxy mode and have programs just using it. Its what I happily use for amethyst, amber, citrine, electrum, signal... and stop. All other softwares in bitcoin and nostr seems to simply not take privacy seriously.

mobile phone is at the epicenter of my "I love tech / I hate tech" dichotomy. I love FOSS, the internet, the freedom and the tech that empowers me. I think it is fondamental to fight against who use the slave-tech to try enslave me. Just be completely offline and live killing animals in the woods is not possible in most of tge worlf, hard times require hard countermesures.
But I also hate being captured by automatisms and dependecies of technology, even when foss. I hate when I feel mindlessly searchig on my FOSS phone for things, something new that gives me a dopamine shot. Not great, and sometimes I really would opt for keep the phone completely off.
But today phones are essential for many things, its so difficult to opt out if you have responsabilities or people to care about.
A bit difficult to find a balance, its a lot easier when I'm more socially engaged with people physically around me. I think this could be the key for a sane relationship with technology and in general the only long term remedy to pretty every dependency/toxic patterns.
But its not ever easy, we can control ourself and try to be our best version, but there are many many things outside of our control that can make us feel alone or not socially connected.

agree, if today I would choose a car to buy it would be a good used car from early 2000 without much electronic.
A used car that can cost me ~5000€ (+ ~2000€ maybe to rapair it to perfection) would be safer, more performant, more repairable, and have no spyware inside than a new car for ~30000€.
And the new car for ~30000€ is designed to not function in 20 years because reparabiloty is limited and the vendor would stop the (expensive) assistance earlier.
The only real downside could be the fuel expenses, but depend on how much kilometers someone does every month.
