Instead, an unwavering community of users running full nodes decided they would activate SegWit regardless, and miners can either accept Segwit transactions or not. Essentially the user community called the bluff of the SegWit2X business+mining group who continuously pushed as if they had control over what software would be running the Bitcoin network. Instead, the conviction & viral growth of the USAF movement was substantial enough to scare the majority of the hash power and businesses to abandon S2X to prevent forking themselves from the network of users.

Shortly after the USAF execution on the network, Bitmain, Ver & Co forked their own coin, Bitcoin Cash (Bcash) to remove segwit and produce 8MB blocks. Even though the debate continues in some corners of social media, this day marked the official end of the Blocksize Wars.

This seems to disregard the many people who aren't involved in anything you've described. They stack bitcoin (and use it in different ways as I do) in order to take care of their families with as little interference as possible. Every revolutionary cause has to deal with reality, and almost none succeed. That's an interesting study in itself.

Bitcoin is a powerful idea, and as such, it's going to go many directions as revolutionary causes often do. As a powerful idea that works remarkably well technically, it has legs, regardless of the personalities and divergent actions they take.

The revolution was never going to go in a straight line, and it was always going to get captured in certain ways (it's people afterall).

I think, though, regardless of all the things you described above, the revolution will go forward because bitcoin actually works for people like me, the sort of average guy looking to take care of his family and sees that the fiat system cannot provide those long-term values I require to do so.

This might very well be me being naive, but I've been in since just after the block-size war, and bitcoin has repeatedly liberated me from the cuffs the system tried to place on me.

If this were so, which is ridiculous already, then productivity would cease growing so fast, which means that bitcoin purchasing power would increase slower, which means that opportunities that yield the same as bitcoin had previously been returning, individually assessed and risk adjusted, would become more highly valued and would get funding, so the system is self regulating. It simply selects for investments that clear a decently high bar, like, oh say, using Bitcoin as money and not losing money. I know, SUCH a high bar, almost no investment would ever happen. Psh.

Anyone worried about mining subsidies becoming unstable enough in the future to cause massively bad chain reorgs on a regular basis, is forgetting that people are rational beings with incentives. Companies like Strategy will pay a subsidy of sorts to keep the timechain secure, by shifting their funds around and paying onchain fees on a regular basis whenever there is a threat of instability. It will be pocket change to them. And there will be many competing companies like this, even if Strategy is the largest. Each of them has an incentive to preserve the security and legitimacy of their chief asset. If any one of them starts using that money to censor instead, any number of the other companies and individuals can simply bypass this by paying a fee or stacking and mining on behalf of those trying to bypass it, earning bitcoin for being true to the Bitcoin ethos.
