We've built it using the Strike API. The main challenge here was upgrading the protocol to be usable with multiple denominations and payment methods. As of now, you can use "USD" ecash to pay and receive on Lightning as long as the backend can convert it (which is what Strike does).

I'm going to build an alternative to the Strike backend using stable lightning channels though (using 10101 or StableChannels on CLN) - that means no third party needed anymore!

Cashu Testnut mint `https://testnut.cashu.space` is now running on the latest Nutshell what's going to be `0.15.0` – updated to `v1` and backwards compatible with old spec. Please feel free to use it for testing wallets / libs etc and report any weird behavior.

Note: This mint prints free and fake money backed by 🐎💩. It also supports fake USD ecash (using Strike) but there is no backend plugged to it right now – that means fake BTC ecash only.
