#nostr #introductions, please say hello to my friend Nouhoum nostr:npub1ggjpmj5tnzrawm8lxzjjux0ngu685ypncflv436dlx87z2cc3uwql6adhn. he may be the first person from Mali 🇲🇱 to join nostr. I’ve known him for many years through our mutual love of the same soccer team, Chelsea FC. we’ve never met but we communicate almost daily. he speaks French and I know very little so I use a translation app as we message each other.

in case you are unfamiliar, Mali is a war torn country and one of the most corrupt and oppressive places on earth. those details are for another time but the short end of it is they need #bitcoin in the worst way. but it is complicated.

Diawara, like most in his country, has no bank account. there are no bitcoin atms or off ramps to exchange for local currency. only peer-to-peer exists and those options are extremely scarce and potentially dangerous.

it is very early but he is here to learn. I’ve only got him this far though. I’m hoping to find someone here who speaks French who can assist him better than I can with getting verified and connecting a wallet (he does have one with coinos). it’s a challenge for him because we haven’t been able to find a mobile client in French. he has no access to desktop.

it’s exciting for me to introduce him to our community. I’m hopeful we can help him grow in knowledge and that in turn he can stack sats and begin to educate his family, friends, neighbors, and eventually the entire country. this is how it begins. if you are able to assist in any way, please consider doing so. 🧡💜
