GM, Nostr friends! ☀️

Notes one month into my carnivore experiment, for anyone who’s curious. Synopsis: so far so good, and I’m excited about pursuing this way of eating for both health and sovereignty.

January notes -

First few weeks weren’t great - likely some keto flu and possibly some oxalate issues. By week three I was feeling a shift, and now I’m waking up energetic and am in a noticeably better mood pretty much all the time. It’s like my brain is just happier.

What I’m eating

Beef, eggs, some cheese, occasional lamb chops and a ton of butter. To mitigate the oxalate issues I’m having a cup of tea every morning. Will taper that soon and see how it goes.

My motivations

- I’ve always been interested in fasting as a health and spiritual practice, but whenever I do it more than a day or two I have a miserable time going back to eating. My hunger cues just get really screwed up and stay that way for a long time. However, from the stories I hear from longtime carnivores, it seems like going a few days without food is just not that much of a physiological shock when we're truly well-nourished.

- we’re in a position on the homestead where we might actually be able to raise all of our own meat very soon. It’s generally the first area of food production in which people are self-sufficient. I have a friend whose family started with cows immediately when they got their land 3 years ago and she has two freezers full of their own Jersey steers.

- even without our own meat, getting a 1/4 or 1/2 cow from a nearby regenerative farm is a very cost-effective way to get excellent nutrition, support small-scale local ranchers who are doing it right, and to get about as close as I can imagine to removing ourselves from the screwed up fiat food system;

- we love fruit and nut trees and will continue planting them, but in general skipping the vegetable garden sounds great to me. Growing lots of veggies can be a ton of work! This year I’ll use sweet potato plants and squash as ground cover in some bare areas (also they're great chicken food) and we might have some tomato plants (my husband loves them) but otherwise I’m not doing a garden.

- some of the anecdotes from long-time carnivores are very inspiring: excellent strength gains and body composition; good energy; overall excellent health.

Next steps:

I’ve committed to the next two months for sure, after which I’ll evaluate. I’ll probably drop pasteurized, store-bought cheese at some point (it’s not a problem as far as I can tell but it would be one of the first things to change if I want to experiment). We’re working on our infrastucture so that we can store more meat at once.

I’m meeting with a fellow Bitcoiner today who I don’t know very well. They’ve disclosed that they’ve never discussed bitcoin in real life with another Bitcoiner. What encouragement would you send to newer Bitcoiners to get involved in the community?

Looking forward to both shows, good to hear from madex again.

Managed to get a new gate to the plot built and installed over the weekend. Still needs painting which will be a weekend job, and a latch fitting which is on today's job list.

To say it's a bit rough is OK, I'm still pleased with how it turned out 👍🏻

youtube’s recommendation algorithm is really bad now. more of exactly the same after one view. swings way too much.

A quick shot I took of a coyote off in the distance this is zoomed in so it's a little blurry but it's awesome I managed to get a picture the sky backdrop really helped it show up!

Hey Phenix, how’s it going?

This fence job is coming right along, this is yesterday's progress. so far I have all 14 posts in the ground and on line. today I'll be able to cut the tops a 7ft 6 inches throw the top board and face boards on. I imagine we will finish this job up today or tomorrow. I'll post a few pictures of the finished project. I love doing these style fences you guys will see. it's absolutely beautiful.

Feeling very grateful for this community, thought I’d share my recipe for winter squash muffins. A staple from the garden thru the Maine winter. #grownostr #baking #homestead

Mix:

1 cup cooked orange flesh squash purée

3 chicken eggs or 2 duck eggs

1/2 cup melted coconut oil

1/4 cup maple sugar (or your choice of sweetener)

tsp vanilla

Whisk together:

1/2 c finely chopped nut meal

1/2 c cassava flour

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ginger

Pinch allspice

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp cream of tartar

1/4 tsp sea salt

Stir dry into wet ingredients

Divide into greased muffin tins

350-375 degree oven

I have a convection oven so they take 6-8 minutes, but could be up to 18 depending on your heat source

Makes approximately 10 muffins, I usually double the recipe

Amazon? I think, it you are in the States Jonnys is top notch, I use their recipe for the soil. These small ones are a last shot before I only use the 2inch ones. I am finding compression is very important

We are a flower farm start up, last year was farm acquisition and retail flowers. No dig only.

We will be doing ~1400 snaps for the spring. Our local florists just had a wholesaler retire so we are trying to pick up market share.

Well this is going to be interesting,

Block 827905 is started my first set of snapdragons. I use a soil blocker to compress the soil to help the plants start. These blocks are 1.5cm cubes
