A lot ppl get off on the shock factor too. As if their diet is their identity. Truth is that food is simple and kind of boring to some people's eyes. Its hard work and dedication. But it gets interesting when you zoom out and consider how long ppl have been breeding plants and animals, creating workable systems and without any real forethought of where this process will lead humanity. obviously it has worked up until now. I just dont know how much longer it will. I feel like this is a deeper topic than most homesteaders etc care to think about.

Weasels! This one got in the barn and killed a whole brood of (13) chicks. When i checked this morning all the chicks were gone except the broody hen. I got my tracking dog to find the trail and she found it and recovered one of the dead chicks. So i set a live there with the chick in it. One hour later i trapped it. Now to reinforce all the pens and make sure everyone is safe from these deadly predators! #homesteading #chickens #weasels

I find hickory nuts are a good alternative here. Pecan can barely survive here.
