It doesn’t really get cold where I live and garlic needs the cold to sprout correctly so I put them in the fridge to trick them.

It might be a tad early but put a few of my biggest garlic bulbs in the refrigerator for fall planting.

second year in a row that the only reason I will have tomatoes this year is because of volunteers. I tried to grow several this year but I left them out and a frost got them. So I’ve cloned the volunteer from the early prunings. And have 5 plants in solo cups now. Keeping my fingers crossed I can get these into the ground, without some failure.

There is a type of green bean that all the old timers/ grandparents in our area would say is “The green bean” you should grow nothing else is worth your time. We call them “half runners” I haven’t found large seed suppliers carry them. But you can buy them at local feed and seed stores in a brown paper bag. I’ve grown these beans and my experience is that they are very tough and chewy. Maybe I’m just bad at growing them. But they are excellent if you are canning or making ham, potatoes, and green bean dishes which are typically cooked for half a day around here. They hold their texture and don’t turn to mush. No one said why the half runners were must have, the older generation just assumed you would be canning.

I don’t know how common potatoes, green beans, and ham is outside of southwest Ohio. Maybe very common? But around here how long that dish is cooked is tied to the expectation you are using half runners. But it’s all unexplained and unspoken.

Yes. It is best to try to remove the bulk. I do this at night. Hang the hen upside down by the feet, quickly massage the mass down towards the mouth. Its like forcing vomit. Youll have to be careful bc this will block the airway and she could breath it in. So only do this for about 5 seconds, then right her up and let her rest for 30 secs.repeat you got most of it out. Its possible she could have an impacted crop caused by a foreign object or of veg like grass hay. Those can be difficult to remove. Check on her nightly and force vomit her if needed. Additionally, you can feed her a mix of yorgurt, garlic and spices. There are recipes online. Careful with garlic as it can be toxic to birds at high levels...
