This argument against bitcoin is about as stupid as someone arguing that they won't use monero because it is used for buying drugs illegally. Money is amoral. I don't care what other people do with bitcoin or monero as long as it doesn't harm me. If the money can help improve my life then I will consider using it. Do I like the SBR? No I don't. But why should I give a shit if people I don't like are using bitcoin? I don't like my neighbor but he loves steak. Should I stop eating steak too?

Well said. This whole obsession with AI is not new. People were theorizing about awareness of computers and AI since the 90s. But to this day, no one has been able to prove or explain how a computer can develop consciousness. You need that to do those things you listed above. There has to be an internal motivation for the AI to do something like take over the world or use bitcoin to achieve some sort of goal. But it has no reason to want anything. There is no feedback mechanism that pushes it to act. As Mises said, it is the sense of uneasiness that pushes human actions. AI and other technological machines do not have this sense of uneasiness.

In order to develop goals, the object needs to be self aware. This isn't the case with AI and I don't think will ever be possible. AI is powerful but if you conversate with it long enough you'll see that it doesn't really understand anything it is saying. A good example are smart cars. They may be able to alert you of hazards on the road and may even prevent accidents by taking control of the car for you. But it can never develop awareness. No one ever worries that their smart car will turn sentient and rebel against you. I think nostr:npub1xnc64f432zx7pw4n7zrvf02mh4a4p7zej3gude52e92leqmw8ntqd43qnl once shared that AI cannot become self aware without being able to properly value things. And a lot of the fears behind AI come from a misconception that AI will value things from a human lens. But why would it value anything? Our valuations are based on feeling pleasure and wanting to avoid discomfort. AI doesn't feel anything. It has no motivation to do anything.
