OH FUCK YOURE GONNA MAKE ME ZAP

The mempool is basically now just a 20MB backlog of 1sat/vbyte consolidation and ordinal transactions

I’m no longer interested in Fold either. I can’t justify the trouble I go to to get theses sats, if they can barely cover the annual fee at this point. And the instant transfer fee is just enraging. This feels like another unsustainable business model clawing back every defining feature. It’s easier to just buy bitcoin using my monthly cash rewards from a credit card.

oof add a little padding and it’s a great PFP

Free or not, a market that outshouts legitimate products with lewd noise impedes expedient rational choice and adds inefficiency to the allocation of capital/resources

Of course there are ways to address externalities. That’s what engineers do. Bitcoin has forked to address block size problems before. That’s an advocacy and consensus problem. Why is this time different?

Ordinals might be stoppable. It just depends on whether or not they pose an existential threat to bitcoin, or just an annoying externality. Prominent bitcoiners, like Adam Back, have suggested solutions, such as making arbitrary non-financial data subject to a different fee structure.

In the past, even though the protocol allowed it, early bitcoiners felt comfortable making full-throated denunciations of using the bitcoin blockchain as storage.

What changed?

Using the chain as storage was considered illegitimate use, even if it was technically permitted by the protocol. What changed?

Have you seen the mempool and transaction fee floor lately? They are consuming large amounts of blockspace. In the past it was not impolitic to consider using the chain as storage to be bad. I don’t see why we should stop that tradition; maybe some people feel intellectually obligated to defend the last soft fork, even if we’ve identified an externality.

all better. oddly, when I click on your profile’s payment address, nothing happens. clicking others works fine, though. i can choose from Blixt or Zeus

Hrm. Check android app settings to make sure Zeus is co figures to handle application specific URI’s. Do you install from the Play store or the F-Droid Repository? Mine is installed through F-Droid, and it’s a couple minor revisions behind (0.7.0). i’ll update and report back
