i was wondering where the name canary came from... here in madeira, there is a large urban area to the west of the main centre of funchal called "camara de lobos" which supposedly has something to do with sea lions but if you translate it from portuguese it's "chamber of the wolves"

people who live on these atlantic islands are well known for thousands of years for their dogs

the name of that suburb or town or whatever you call it for me brings to mind a very common feature you find in many residences on madeira - a large cage that a dog is kept in, usually never let out and not really socialised at all

yes, canary comes from "canis" as in dogs

also, kinda cool, there is a comic book character called "lobo" which means wolf in portuguese, who is always saying "frag"

#madeira #canary #wolves

you have to go at all costs... whatever you thought you had with them in the picture, you will learn that you lose nothing and only gain

this happened to me a couple of times now, partly why i'm so skeptical and salty

i disagree... the opposable thumbs are directly about being able to grasp onto things

dogs are far less curious and rebellious than cats, rebelliousness and curiosity go hand in hand, and they come in tow with the ability to make use of this information, ie memory

dogs are servile, that is a marker of lower intelligence... mid shall we say

at best you can say a nonservile canine would be animals like coyotes and foxes and other solitary canines

humans are descended from tree climbers... dogs don't climb trees. bears do, cats do, lemurs do... numerous types of marsupials do, rodents, but no, not dogs.

they are pretty retarded at mimicry but they can do it when it suits them

so idk maybe they are good at it actually

that same cat that was tweakin my nerves he also one time spoke my name, obviously like a human with a messed up mouth/throat somewhere, they don't do glottal stops very well, it's more of a arabic style silence

i'm sure it's just a coincidence that female cats mating call sounds like a crying baby tho... i mean, when you really listen close to it the difference is pretty easy to tell but when you never heard it before the resemblance is like hearing someone speak a word from your language even though if you knew their language you'd know it wasn't that word

already muting you so yeah

i do my own research and don't rely on self appointed experts who like to engage in slanging matches... why i don't waste my time with the samourai or wasabi crowd and a whole bunch of other things on the internet

in my experience, both sides are wrong enough to disregard both when there is this kind of animosity

the very fact that they want to be seen as experts is a red flag, and that includes you miss ava, because you don't know enough to be called an expert either

yeah, i can imagine... and that's literally what they are doing... i guess as a woman that hits you...

took me like 2 years to stop being tweaked by my cat first time i had one, he had a really good nag tone, beautiful voice too, like a crystal bell

have you heard what a randy billy goat sounds like btw... pretty funny

having fun with the job today... got two days to get a working event store backend working for a database with extremely slow batch processing

yes, it's a blockchain, for those who don't realise this, when you synchronously send events to a blockchain and there is no queuing along the path each transaction is a block and that takes 2-4 seconds, at least, to commit

reading through all the code that my junior colleague wrote, bless him, was a lot of dejavu like reading the khatru code for the first time

all the errors... passing large structs as values, using interfaces like they are harmless, no batching of events... i am writing a scheduler goroutine now and i've added a new database function to commit more than one event in a pass, yes, i had to dirty my fingertips with rust code, thankfully it was just adding a simple for loop iterator

i'm gonna get this MVP done today, almost certainly, and i'm gonna be giving the junior colleague a walkthrough on all the things i had to do to make it work

oof... just discovered my budget studio monitors the plug had come loose and the pins were not holding into their sockets properly on the plug side

further investigation showed that these things have thick looking cable but tiny thin wires inside, and the socket connecting the two speakers, one containing the amp, was very thin, and the insulation extremely thick and no shielding anyway

so, i opened up the back of the passive unit, cut the wires and stripped them, took a little bit of effort to strip the ridiculously fat insulation, twisted em together, insulation tape with both wires firmly separated, and yay, no more funny noises and left channel dropout

when i cbf later i'll replace the back panel conection with some standard wire sockets and get a soldering iron and tin out some normal speaker wires, like a normal fucking speaker connection

literally an expensive part where three cheap components would have been far more durable and unlikely to fail

oh well, in this case i saved money by paying for stupidity

fartcaster is a joke

only chains that embrace #nostr will go anywhere, and it's only a short term thing

there is no other social network system that exists that has the potential of nostr

yeah, it's not gonna just work out of the box, needs to be some careful thought but it could almost completely obsolete or dramatically reduce the labor cost for managing funding for software dev shop

if someone in marketing, for example, put out some stuff that really pulled in the donations, for example, then their rank should be upgraded, that's the logical upshot of this... it's quite a neat system for establishing fund distribution, it could work not just in the donation situation but for an organisation that is funding off grants and other speculative contributions (if there is some reasonable mechanism for adding contributors to the set of split targets - it could be done for sure and make it very automatic)

haha code commit ratio is a really bad idea... way to incentivise garbage

no, it should be entirely according to their rank in the operation, junior, senior, marketing, communications, etc etc etc... you set the roles, and base the breakdown on the ratios of that set of the team based on market rates for the work

it necessarily means there has to be someone in charge and accountable for setting this rank for all contributors

at least that's how i would do it anyway
