I don't have a wood stove. I chose to put the RMH in close proximity to the chimney. I basically wanted to heat my house with wood in the cheapest, easiest, most efficient way possible. So I built the RMH core next to chimney and made a tall stack bench/mass at counter height vs a sitting bench. This saved floor space in the room. Basically taller skinnier mass vs short and wide. This way it all fit nicely in the room and I didn't have to do anything complicated. I could just use the chimney I already had from the existing fireplace.
Thanks, it was pretty simple to build and really cheap. Plus all the materials were easy to find. No special tools needed. The most expensive and difficult to install component was the 8in stainless steel chimney liner. I needed some help from another person to install it. I chose to do pea gravel in case it didn't work well or I decided to remove it in the future. Cob would work even better and we would probably burn much less wood. Cob is a lot more permanent though. If I build another one I am confident enough to build it with cob.
When it comes to rocket mass heater the core design is important. This is the rocket that drives the gasses through the ducting in the mass. The bell (barrel) plus insulated riser of the core burn chamber is important, simply running the exhaust horizontally out of something like a wood burning insert will be difficult to get enough draft to the exhaust to make its way out of the house instead of smoke back into the room especially when the mass is cool. The bell combined with the insulated riser inside creates a secondary burn because the smoke gets trapped at the top of the barrel. It combusts and then is rapidly cooled by the large metal surface area of the bell (barrel). The difference in temperature between the riser and bell needs to be extreme which is why insulating the riser is critical. This create a sort of pump action which helps to force the exhaust gasses through the ducting horizontally in the mass and then up out the chimney. Also notice how the ultimate exit of the ducting is very close to the barrel which also helps to increase the draft.
Colder temperatures have arrived here at the homestead so it's time to start posting about my rocket mass heater again. This is the most efficient wood burning heater for the cost and ease of construction you will find. It paid for itself in energy savings the first winter. Plus, since it burns so little wood I save tons of time by not having to gather, split, and stack cords and cords of wood.

I want to find an artist who makes this style to commission some work.
I would like to grow some meat with that cannabis but also save a little for evening time introspection too.
Foraging this season has been good

Apples (~100lbs), chicken of the woods mushroom, honey mushrooms, and chestnuts all gathered in an afternoon driving around the neighborhood. Social capital paying off, all I had to do was stop while riding my bike, ask questions and talk about the homestead to neighbors. They were happy to know that what would otherwise go to waste would end up as cider, soup, and seedling trees.

The same is true for these pears. I learned that they are a common storage variety not meant to be enjoyed until late winter. The neighbor told me they used to pack the pears in barrels of oats and would pull out wonderfully ripe pears in late winter. I will make a few dozen gallons of cider with these including dehydrated ingredients from throughout the summer thanks to the bitcoin mining dehydrator.

Some of the apples were so good I couldn't stand to make cider with them and instead decided to make some apple chips with the dehydrator.
One of the big reasons we are focusing on foraging so much is to prepare ourselves for the processing necessary once our fruit/nut trees are mature and producing abundantly. It seems like exponential growth going from a seedling tree to mountains of fruit and we will be caught off guard if we don't start figuring out how to deal with 100s of pounds of fruit now. One peach tree which fruited for the second year produced over 80lbs of peaches...

We'll never know how many people hold their own keys. Any way you slice it, Bitcoin is certainly a sub culture still. With true participants of the network scattered and unaware of each other. I hope to further unify the Bitcoiners in my area. No stone left unturned my goal is to find as many isolated bitcoiners as possible bring them together.
We finish our lamb with tree leaves. I prune trees; sugar maple, hickory, sassafras, sycamore, tulip poplar, and more right be for the leaves change. This times out to be just a few weeks before the lambs go to butcher. This technique produced gains of 10lbs live weight on average just two weeks before butchering last season. The diversity in diet and forage imparts excellent flavor to the meat.
They will wish they had ate what they stepped on. I can't help but look around at nature and see value everywhere. Living capital is vastly undervalued in my opinion.
This year has been a true level up when it comes to chestnuts at the homestead

I've been able to find more chestnuts than ever falling from the american chestnut tree here. I look forward to planting them soon

I also found another seedling chestnut tree about 30ft away from the mother tree in addition to the seedling I found in the spring. Looking forward to watching them grow. Hopefully they are both also as blight resistant as the large tree.

Recently I stumbled across an older chestnut seedling that had succumbed to the blight. Classic example of the main trunk getting girdled and new growth coming back from ground level. Makes me wonder how many more I've been walking past an just never noticed here.

This fall I will plant more chestnuts than ever before thanks to discovering and getting the opportunity to collect the nuts from several trees in the neighborhood. Hopefully I can grow enough to try out the Mark Shepard stun strategy. Basically plant as many as possible with tight spacing and let nature select for the strongest trees (strategically).

The elderberries loaded in the dehydrator in the picture were frozen so they dripped some juices but everything else I've dehydrated has had no dripping.
As far as the screen goes, I just bought aluminum window screen. Ideally I wanted to use stainless steel screen but I couldn't find any locally.

Looking forward to digging into this. Thanks.
Yes, an S9 is an excellent dehydrator. Simply build a box roughly the same size as other 1000w dehydrators and cut a hole to fit the exhaust fan of the Asics. I've been using the one I made for many months now with great success. I have not tried meat yet. Biltong should work just fine though because it doesn't require the higher temperatures that is recommended for other kinds of dried meats.

its considered a note with all the other peoples comments on damus, not where i look to find content
Oh that's not good, I think lots of users are creating notes in the quote structure similar to what I use. In amethyst the quote reply is a selection of the boost feature.
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is there a intentional reason the quoted notes don't show up in the main feed on damus?
What clients present the quote style reply in the main feed?
nostr:npub1kcdct6hyg9ykajk5utkm0yz757yhtw0ffay63ntnd4t0d0gjwhuqwgswxu isn't seeing my posts with the client they are using because it considers the quote style reply as simply a reply and doesn't present it on the main feed.
Cannabis harvest almost complete

The cannabis harvested in late September is nearly done drying. I don't do anything fancy for drying, just hang the branches somewhere protected from the weather but exposed to fresh and passive airflow. For now, the tiny house trailer I'm working on with some windows open is the place I'm drying cannabis. When the branches snap instead of bending over I can be confident the cannabis is dry enough.

All that remains of the cannabis in the rabbit colony cannabis garden are a few branches on each plant to test mold resistance and see how long they can last.

What are some ways to mitigate covid infection after spending time with someone who is sick? Nasal sprays? Iodine mouthwash? Zinc supplement?
Ah ha, that's what I may have been missing. Is there a simple explanation you can give for how the DMs weaken the security of the key? Otherwise, do you have a link handy where I could learn more?
It sounds like the generator doubles as a water heater (or boiler?) too. Would love to see what you play around with if you get a few chips to try something out.
I understand that neither twitter DMs or nostr DMs are private. Maybe the better question to ask is what are the privacy trade offs between the two?
For example, can Elon read my nostr DMs? I don't think so, but he can read my Twitter DMs.
Can anyone see who I've been DMing and when on Twitter? No, well no one except anyone with the right privileges.
In what circumstances would one prefer to use one platforms DMs over the other? In my opinion, if I had to choose, I think nostr is strictly better than Twitter for my usage. In what ways am I wrong about this?
