Techdirt guy. Believes in protocols over platforms.

Okay, checking in again on nostr after some time away. Trying Primal, which seems to have improved a lot since I last tested it... What else should I be looking at?

The average user doesn't care and will never care. That's why decentralized providers still need to offer something else of value that's better. Still worth highlighting decentralized systems and explaining their importance, but over time that will only appeal to a segment of the population.

The future of microblogging social media: everyone posting on their preferred platform to complain about some other new entrant into the microblogging social media market that people are buzzing about and which people who are comfortable with their existing choice don't want to bother with.

"But why would you ever need content moderation?" people yell at me, as their screams disappear into the morass of spam that fills up my nostr mentions...

Last night was using coracle. Today I'm using snort.

Posted some stuff to nostr last night that appears to have never actually made it. Wondering how common that is?

One less fun thing about nostr is that I seem to need to use 3 or 4 clients at a time, as each one seems to display different things, or have a different feature break each time I try to use it. It's nice that there ARE so many options, but would be nicer if I could just use one or two and stick with them rather than having to constantly have all of them open.

I don't know the specifics there, but I doubt the issue is wanting "some 3rd party to censor them." Rather they want to use the platform in a manner that does not result in them being harassed/spammed. Moderation is very rarely about "censorship," and often about community building/community norms.

Heh. I've been staring at primal trying to figure out where the hell you enter you key to login and it's beyond me. At least for me, it doesn't exist.

In playing around with nostr again, I just came across Alby. It *looks* super slick, but I have no idea if it's legit. I could dig in and try to figure out... or I could just ask here and see if anyone has any opinions.
