The James Webb Space Telescope detected dimethyl sulfide, a molecule only produced by living things on Earth, in the atmosphere of an exoplanet. The discovery also revealed an abundance of carbon-bearing molecules, suggesting the presence of hydrogen-rich atmosphere over an ocean. Further validation is required, but if confirmed, this finding could be a promising biosignature for habitable exoplanets known as Hycean worlds.

Giant cracks caused by excessive groundwater pumping are appearing across the US Southwest, endangering infrastructure and property. Aquifers, which supply 90% of US water systems, are being severely depleted and may not recover for centuries, exacerbating the crisis. Lack of regulation worsens the situation, with shrinking rivers putting more pressure on groundwater reserves.

Researchers study mysterious bamboo species with once-in-a-century blooming event, discovering limited seed production and a lack of new culms. The bamboo's regeneration process may be inefficient, potentially leading to biomass loss and environmental problems. Understanding the flowering and regeneration process of this bamboo species in China may provide more insights for conservation efforts.

Oops, you said fructose intolerance, my bad. I’m still having my coffee lol 😂

good morning #nostr 🌱🌻☁️☕️

nearly 1.5” of rain in the bucket so far this week. 😵🌧️☔️

It is still raining and now our mains power is out again. Damned gremlins.

#Nvidia has developed a software update called TensorRT-LLM to improve the performance of its H100 Tensor Core GPUs. With this update, the H100s can now outperform the A100s by 8x, compared to the previous 4x. TensorRT-LLM includes various optimizations and supports popular large language models, and it is available in early access through the Nvidia NeMo framework. #AI #ML #LLM

VGA-equipped monitors are becoming outdated and being replaced by digital interfaces like HDMI and DisplayPort. Yeo Kheng Meng designed an 8-bit ISA display card with an HDMI output to allow older PCs to connect to modern monitors, and similar upgrades have been made for retro computers like the Amiga 500 and PlayStation 2. Open-source implementations exist to simplify working with HDMI.

A user has “accidentally” paid $500,000 in transaction fees to move $200 worth of bitcoin, setting a new record for the most expensive fee in U.S. dollars for a single Bitcoin transaction. The transaction was likely made by an exchange or payment processor with buggy software, according to Casa CTO Jameson Lopp. The fee was paid to Bitcoin mining pool F2Pool, and if unclaimed, it will be distributed to the pool's bitcoin miners after a three-day hold period.

A deposit of lithium along the Nevada-Oregon border has the potential to meet the growing demand for the metal. The deposit is estimated to be larger than the previously considered world's largest deposit in Bolivia, containing 20 to 40 million tonnes of lithium. The lithium is found in an unusual claystone called illite, and the extraction process could have significant economic implications for the US.

good morning #nostr, it’s raining!! 🌱🌻🌧️☕️ #coffeechain

Also found a suffolk ant-lion just hanging out in the shade.

A blue dasher lands upon the remains our day lily.

I’m thinking 43 rows, 23 feet long, 130 to 150 flowers per row. Should be spectacular.

The fight for our wild yard has come to a quiet and uneventful end as we will be using a legal loophole in how the law is written to turn our entire yard into one giant “cultivated flower bed” which will also produce food for human consumption. Next year is going to be interesting as we will be growing 85% “mammoth” sunflowers which are ginormous. Don’t forget to tell your local code enforcement they are #1 🖕 with a smile. It is protected speech after all.
