I would also be very interested in this. I habitually look for solid bear arguments, or systemic weaknesses. I get uncomfortable when things feel culty.
All the people who really appear to understand it are on board, most of the arguments against it kinda miss the mark.
Yeah, it's totally the wild west, and criminals are absolutely involved. However I wouldn't have it any other way.
Not because I support the crimes, and don't have empathy for the victims, but because any attempt to control it will centralize some form of power, and wherever power collects, criminals come to influence it with time.
I want the Wild West, were I am equal footing with the criminals, not the current criminal paradigm of banksters that have fortified the high ground and are making all of us fight uphill to reclaim it.
It has worked flawlessly foe sending zaps in amethyst, but I haven't been able to fund ppq.ai for a week.
As a Canadian, I would like to remind you, that for all the issues the US has, there are more disfunctional governments.
That's trickier, I tried a bunch of different solutions and kept hitting different roadblocks.
Ended up scripting my own thing using restic for the backups, and restic has been exceptional.
I wanted to be able to take docker containers offline, and backup different kinds of databases, both to other local systems and cloud providers, all encrypted.
This however is not particularly noob friendly.
Haha, yeah, people aren't ready. My spouse is concerned about how I'm affected the "corners of the internet" I spend time in. Can't spend 2 min listening to some interesting theory about whatever.
You need to examine your own motivations. Are you doing it to Peacock about your intelligence? Are you not doing it because you want to better off than these people. Are you explaining because you're worried they aren't prepared for what's coming? Are you not explaining because you are worried about being wrong/judged.
I'm not even putting values on any of these things, I'm just saying you gotta be honest with yourself, and even beyond that, you need choose the path that is true to your own values.
Know yourself, and be true to yourself.
Nextcloud is pretty aproachable for mildly technical people.

Where can you do this in the street so casually?
Imagine a financial regulation change where in order to comply with anti money laundering laws, one needs to keep all our your kyc BTC, custodied, in a federally chartered financial institution, and if you don't comply and deposit your kyc BTC into your bank account, then your fiat accounts get frozen until you comply. You can't pay your mortgage, you can't get insurance, you don't get your pay/pension cheques etc.
That's a very very small step from where we are now.
Count me in
I've been full non-kyc for years, I sleep very soundly at night.
Agreed, and many years ago the holocaust lost it's place as my schelling point for evil.
It's been flawless for me, I have read mixed reviews online, but it hasn't been representative of my experience.
I am running three OS's on it, doing fairly heavy gaming, running dozens of VM's in QubesOS. The exchangeable ports have all worked automagically in linux.
Really the companies commitment to repairability and willingness to publish some specs to create a little ecosystem was really the most appealing part. Them introducing an upgraded mobo for the FW13 was a big milestone to me.
Lot's of companies make great laptops, many with better performance per dollar, however most of the companies are pretty irritating or despicable in some manner. I will continue to fund companies that share my values.
Purism and System76 were other brands I considered.
#Gates appears to pre-emptively be setting up a defense for being exposed as a #pedo.
Less important than feeding him into the woodchipper for being a pedo, is to acknowledge that he has been a controlled actor for many years acting on behalf of shadowy unknown powers.

It is a form of linux, it's a Xen Hypervisor running a bunch of virtual machines, it's optimized for security and privacy. I've never reccomended it, it's the most complex OS ive used with a steep learning curve and a lot of limitations.
Pretty happy with my Framework 16 running Qubes OS
