I am starting to think real organized crime is behind many shitcoins. Some stuff just goes beyond the expected rug pulling by first-time influencers.

Why would you scam the elderly in phone calls if you could just launch a meme coin and cash out tens of millions in less than a day of work?

We have been way too lenient towards memecoins as if they were simply "startup investments that didn't work" and the fault is on whoever decided to invest on them without proper diligence.

What if this is more serious? What if coins are being architected by criminal networks simply because they are so much more profitable than any other crime? What if in order to protect their newfound profits they start murdering people trying to stop them?

I have known devs to recieve death threats form coins such as xrp, and force them off FOSS projects.

What do you mean?

I was told XRPs were dangerous but I didn't know they had AI death threat ability built into them.

FFS.

So what would you propose to do about it?

Yeah that's the issue bc if you press this idea, people will say that criminals use Bitcoins too.

This too shall pass

Same as it always was

And always will be.

There is no doubt that we are facing serious crimes that have currently been trivialized by the political class.

Yeah, it's totally the wild west, and criminals are absolutely involved. However I wouldn't have it any other way.

Not because I support the crimes, and don't have empathy for the victims, but because any attempt to control it will centralize some form of power, and wherever power collects, criminals come to influence it with time.

I want the Wild West, were I am equal footing with the criminals, not the current criminal paradigm of banksters that have fortified the high ground and are making all of us fight uphill to reclaim it.

Are you accusing $TRUMP coin of being some sort of criminal enterprise to scam MAGA morons?

I'm pretty sure the USA is about to ban science and education and legalize every possible grift you can imagine, including meme coins.

I’ve suspected this for a long time.

I thought this was common knowledge, already.

It's no mystery that these same networks have advocated for dismantling consumer protections under the Trump administration.

Art is money laundering.

Always has been.

Even degenerate art.

Organized crime is in everything including BTC, where do you think they launder all their profits? Your beloved orange money is dirty. Not more, not less, than any other form of money. Fiat corrupts! BTC corrupts! Shitcoins corrupt! This will ALWAYS be the way...

A transparent, immutable, public ledger is not the most logical tool to launder money...

But it still happens...

As of now, it is the digital Wild, Wild West with no real regulations prohibiting people from creating their own shitcoinery and scamming the vulnerable population -organized crime or regular ol Joes.

There’s a fine balance of people being told to be educated first before making life-altering financial decisions versus having the freedom to do so without being reprimanded by centralized institutions telling them what they can or cannot do with their money.

And then! There’s another fine balance between an individual or organization having the freedom to create their own shitcoin they can promote to their unsuspecting audience promising no rug-pulls with full guarantees versus restricting the creation of shitcoins thus limiting the innovation of cryptocurrency to centralized institutions enforcing the restrictions.

If we decide to limit the freedom, will shitcoinery still take place? Will organized crime using shitcoins be reduced?

If we don’t limit the freedom and open the gates to everyone with the capability to use pump.fun-esque token launchers …well that’s where we’re at.

It's a similar phenomena as the multi-level schemes, specially in developing countries. Desperation makes people want fast money. High time preference

They are…

These groups find ā€œinnocentā€ people who’ve made fledgeling meme coins + communities, promise to make a market for them, pump the coin, and leave them a profit. They make the memecoiners some money, but the market makers (cartel) keep the most. Oh and if they get caught, the memecoiner goes to jail and hasn’t a clue who they were really working with.

Have a friend who’s an excellent marketer make an ā€œorganicā€ meme coin. They approached him too. He avoided it because some of his friends already got busted. His ā€œorganicā€ coin went nowhere: he didn’t play the game.

Then, there’s the whole VC realm of market makers who look to ā€œinvestā€ in crypto projects and get early tokens. They basically are set up to do the same thing as the cartel but it’s ā€œlegalā€. This is WAY BIGGER than the above (includes *Name Brand* firms) but operate in a legal grey area. Also criminal in my opinion… preying on naive founders.

We’re living through the era of ponzi infinity and it ain’t stopping soon I’m afraid.

I think we have come to the level where everyone knows memecoins are just for pump and dump. So i believe anyone who's investing in them should know how the game works.

Meh. Meme coins are and have always been stupid. Pumpfun is stupid. NFTs were stupid. But you know what? People who bought beanie babies or fidget spinners had to have somewhere to go. I just don't know any of these people but that's on them and they can do their thing even if it runs them into the poor house my only issue is when "leaders" like Trump or Milei get involved. Actually, Trump has always done stupid shit like this be it water, steaks, watches, or cologne. He'll sell whatever whenever. So let him and let his dumb fanbase collect them all and if they enjoy them, cool.

That is why bitcoiners train regularly and conceal carry at all times

3 Dobermann in every home

Definitely, Russian mafia all over this

So, criminals are trying to be the state, nothing new on this earth šŸ˜‚

You say we've been too lenient but what option of fighting it do you see here?

Albyhub

That still looks like something for more aware. I guess education is a must anyway

Sorry. I read "lightning" instead of "fighting" in your reply :)

The fight is to not dismiss rug pulls as simple fraud that just happens to the unaware. Instead, we should investigate how the fraud got created, which people were behind it, and who got most of the benefits from the fraud.

Ah šŸ˜…

So a genuine question. Once we investigate what would be the next step?

It's just money laundering.

Hunter Biden's art is also just a meme coin.
